πŸŽ‰ What an unforgettable morning celebrating an incredible milestone!

This week, our Active Adult Center community came together to celebrate Nancy's 100th birthday! πŸ₯³ As one of the very first members of our Active Adult Center, Nancy has been a special part of our Crystal Lake Park District family for many years.

The celebration was filled with laughter, heartfelt stories, delicious food, and wonderful memories shared with friends and loved ones. It was a beautiful reminder of the friendships and sense of community that make our Active Adult programs so special.

A huge thank you to everyone at Grand Oaks, our staff, and everyone who helped make this celebration possible. And most importantly, thank you to everyone who came out to honor Nancy and make her 100th birthday one she'll never forget. ❀️

Bird Friendly Crystal Lake Park District Nature Center

Did you know that collisions with glass are one of the leading human-related causes of bird mortality? Because glass can reflect the surrounding environment or appear transparent, birds often do not recognize it as a barrier and may attempt to fly through it. To help reduce bird collisions, the Nature Center has installed more than 150 square feet of bird-safe window markings. These white and clear patterns make the glass visible to birds while maintaining views for visitors, helping to prevent accidental strikes.

The Nature Center also recently installed a Haikubox, an automated bird-monitoring device that identifies birds by their vocalizations. By recording and analyzing bird calls, the Haikubox helps track which species are present, when they visit, and how frequently they occur throughout the year. The system can even create spectrograms which are visual representations of bird songs and calls. This data provides valuable insights into migration timing, nesting activity, and overall bird diversity in our area.
