Generally you would do 10% of their body weight plus 1, but you might consider 1-2 more on a bigger one since the weight is distributed over a larger area. The product I use to weight the blankets is a smooth, non-toxic poly-pellet that is evenly distributed throughout in approximately 5" squares (the pellets flow freely within the square). One side is 100% cotton flannel and the other a soft minky cuddle dot material. I would consider heavier ones being done in a laundromat machine rather than your own, but that is up to your discretion.
