🦆 US Justice Department attorneys are urging a judge to dismiss a lawsuit in Florida challenging the law finalized by the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms, and Explosives in April of this year that requires more gun sellers to be licensed and conduct background checks on buyers. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement currently conducts all background checks, and Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody contests that the new rule puts undue strain on the state to handle an impending wave of background checks. The Federal Government says that Florida did that to themselves, because the FBI offers to conduct background checks for free to relieve that strain. The State argues that the law goes too far.

🦆 New Hampshire is planning a special waterfowl hunting weekend for veterans and active military members starting in 2025. The first weekend after the close of the regular season would be dedicated to service members. Hunters would still have to hold all the regular hunting licenses and permits, and regular season limits would still apply.

🦆 Minnesota’s ban on firearm ownership for 18-20 year olds has been ruled unconstitutional. Multiple groups challenged the law, including the Fi****ms Policy Coalition, Second Amendment Foundation, Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus, and others. The Court found that the state failed to provide sufficient justification for the ban, as the right to bear arms extends to all law-abiding adults.

🦆 A company called American Rounds LLC is making the move to install and operate AI-automated Ammo Retail Machines in the south. Alabama, Oklahoma, and Texas already use the devices, and American Rounds is considering expansion into Florida soon. Some are excited by the move, saying it makes purchase of ammunition convenient while maintaining security. Critics say that it’s just one more avenue for people in a hurry to do bad things to get the extra ammo they want. The machines require and use identification and face-matching technology to dispense what is purchased. 👀

🦆 The National Rifle Association, Fi****ms Policy Coalition, and others have filed a lawsuit against California over the additional 11% tax implemented on gun and gun-related sales last year. They call it a direct attack on Second Amendment rights, and say the Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld that “constitutional rights cannot be singled out for special taxation.” Proponents of the tax say the funds are supporting programs for gun safety and supporting victims of gun violence.

🦆 Florida will have an amendment on its ballot next November protecting the “right to hunt and fish” across the state. Florida’s hunting and fishing culture is already recognized in various statutes, but Amendment 2 would “preserve forever fishing and hunting, including by the use of traditional methods…”. The change will not affect or limit the authority of the FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Opponents of this amendment is unnecessary and just gives people the rights to do what they want, like kill invasive species instead of trapping and relocating them.🐍

🦆 States are divided over whether to mandate or prohibit credit card companies from assigning specific fi****ms sales codes to purchases, to help “flag suspicious gun-related purchases for law enforcement agencies, potentially averting mass shootings and other crimes.” California’s law goes into effect July 1, and New York and Colorado are close behind.
Other states have already instituted laws prohibiting such tracking, and many have gone further to allow concealed carry without a permit 🔫

🦆 The US Supreme Court has ruled that a Trump-era ban on bump stocks is unlawful. The rule was originally enacted in 2019, following a mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017. The case resulting in this ruling centered on the fact that the ATF decided to interpret an existing law, the National Fi****ms Act, to improperly include bump stocks.
