Today was the first day of our Instructor Training Program, and Iโ€™m really excited about the group we have going through it this year.

Obviously, the goal is to develop better martial arts instructors and create more consistency in how we teach across the academy. But thereโ€™s a lot more to learning how to teach than just standing in front of a class and explaining a technique.

Teaching develops communication skills. It forces you to organize your thoughts, explain complicated ideas in simple ways, read the people around you, adjust when someone isnโ€™t understanding, and become more comfortable leading a group. Those are skills that carry over into work, relationships, parenting, and just about anywhere else you have to deal with people.

Programs like this also help build community within the academy. You spend time working together, sharing ideas, solving problems, and learning how other people think. At the same time, developing a strong instructor team helps create more consistency on the mats so that no matter who is teaching, our students are getting the same fundamentals, expectations, and quality of instruction.

Really good first day. Looking forward to seeing where this group is eight weeks from now.

Hi everyone,

This Halloween, Top Level Jiu-Jitsu Academy is hosting a Trunk or Treat on October 31 from 5:30โ€“8:00 PM, and Iโ€™d love to give a few of our friends who own or represent local businesses an opportunity to be part of it.

We have 5 to 7 spaces available, and there is no cost to participate. All I ask is that if you claim a space, ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐—ฎ ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—บ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐˜‚๐—ฝ.

Decorate your trunk, bring some candy for the kids, and feel free to set up a small table with business cards, flyers, coupons, giveaways, or anything else youโ€™d like to hand out.

This is happening during Cuyahoga Falls trick-or-treat hours, so weโ€™ll be advertising the event to families in the surrounding community through social media and paid advertising. We are conveniently located on North Haven Blvd, right across from the new Cuyahoga Falls High School!

At the same time, weโ€™ll have a costumed Adult Open Mat happening inside the academy, so youโ€™re also welcome to have information or giveaways geared toward the adults who will be attending.

Thereโ€™s no sales pitch and no fee. Iโ€™d simply rather use the event to give some exposure to businesses connected to our academy than fill every space ourselves.

This week we opted to take a brief detour from our standard curriculum and focus on break falls and controlling our own body movements through things like forward rolls and sh*****ng.
Its difficult to think of anything more useful to learn from jiu-jitsu than knowing how to fall safely.
