Sad News for the Running Community

If you haven't heard, we lost Ken Brown this past week.

Ken had been running with us since our very first trail race at Fort Yargo State Park, Winder, Georgia, (20 years ago). In those early years of Dirty Spokes, he was always one of the first to arrive on race day morning. He'd jump right in, offer a helping hand, and was always ready to strike up a conversation. If you knew Ken, he liked to talk! His kindness, generosity, and enthusiasm made every event better.

Ken was a fierce competitor and an accomplished ultrarunner back in the 1970s and 1980s (before ultrarunning was popular). Even in later years, he continued to compete hard and was always a strong contender in his age group.

A true jack of all trades, Ken worked as an arborist (tree surgeon) and, to my knowledge, was still climbing trees until just four or five years ago. His work reflected the same strength, determination, and work ethic that he brought to running.

More than anything, Ken loved to run, and he loved the running community. His friendship, dedication, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all of us at Dirty Spokes.

God bless you, Ken Brown. Rest in peace, and thank you for being such an important part of our running family.
