Absolutely ABSURD day at Double A Lake in Wills Point, TX…

46 fish solo day with the biggest coming in at 7 pounds 6 ounces. Here’s part of the report:

“I originally planned to stop around mid-day after catching 24 fish, but I wanted “just one more fish” as always. The bite window from 2:30 to 5:00 absolutely caught fire. Overall catch rate for the bite window was one bass every 6.8 minutes. Not accounting for re-tying and assuming it took roughly 3–4 minutes to land each fish, the effective bite rate was approximately one bass every 2.8–3.8 minutes… crazy!!

Thanks again to Joe for all the hard work maintaining the all-weather roads and, more importantly, for building and sustaining such an incredible fishery with true Class A bass.”

This 6 pounder from a recent trip to a 15-acre lake just outside Italy, Texas and sits 40 miles south of Dallas and 60 miles from Fort Worth, offering a refreshing change from the flat agricultural lands of Ellis County. Pecan Springs Ranch in Waxahachie, TX is surrounded by rolling hills and shaded by trees, this lake’s scenic setting makes it easy to forget you’re still in North Texas.

Originally built in the 1960s, the lake reaches depths up to 19 feet, with the deepest waters along the West side. Cedar trees have been carefully submerged to create nine well-placed brush piles, most marked with PVC, creating ideal spots for fish to gather. The lake’s naturally fertile waters support a thriving plankton base, which keeps the threadfin shad population healthy. And with minimal vegetation, you’ll be able to use a wide range of tackle with ease.

The concrete boat launch allows for larger boats—even when water levels are five feet low. Just remember, this soil conservation lake can rise and fall quickly, so please keep your boat up on dry ground and tied securely to a tree when not in use, and avoid dragging it on the concrete ramp.
