My pain didn’t break me. It introduced me to my voice.

Facing my abandonment wounds, going back to little Dee, grieving my father, and reclaiming the parts of myself I once felt I had to hide has been one of the greatest acts of self-love of my life.

Most people may not know this, but I’m also a preacher’s kid. Growing up in a home where religion was heavy and being q***r wasn’t accepted, I learned early how to silence parts of myself and how to perform.

But what it cost me to become me was learning how to take my power back.

Reparenting myself. Healing. Reclaiming. And standing boldly and unapologetically in my truth as a masc-presenting q***r woman.

And now, I’m putting more of that story on paper, and sharing in spaces aligned for deeper connection.

We starting September in self love energy….

Stop holding on to people who you know aren’t healing and on your level.

When we stay in toxic connections or relationships too long for the sake of putting others before ourselves, we then have to ask ourselves hard ass questions???

What part of of me needs to heal? Why am I allowing this?

Sheesh. Many may not like that one but the mirror be reflecting and never lies!🪞

You aren’t not responsible for other people’s healing. Let that s**t go. If it ain’t elevating you…get the f**k on with your life!

There are parts of my story that I’ve written about for years…but I’m finally finding the courage to speak about them out loud!🫶🏾🎤🎙️

At the last healing circle I was invited to in HTX, we were asked to bring something that brings us joy. I brought a picture I’ve kept since I was 19, my father holding me as a baby.

I lost my father to senseless violence when I was only two years old.

But what I know is that he was my first experience of protection. My first experience of safety. I was held by him.

And for much of my life, I didn’t realize how deeply I was searching for that feeling again.

As a masc-presenting q***r woman, people sometimes want to make assumptions about my story. Who hurt you? What man did this to you? It may be for many, but that isn’t my story.

My story is about a little girl who lost her father far too soon and grew up learning how to navigate that absence.

My self-love journey has been about returning to that little two-year-old version of me and reclaiming the love I know my father had for me.

The love. The protection. The safety.

I’m learning how to give that to myself now.

My books have been a huge part of that healing. But at 43, I’m realizing healing has given me something else:

The courage to speak. To tell my story beyond the pages. To name the wounds I once carried silently. To understand where they came from without allowing them to define where I’m going.

Healing helps us understand the wounds we carry within and gives us the courage to love those places back to life.

I’m not just healing for the woman I am today.

I’m healing for that little girl who was once held so tightly by her father.

And in many ways, I’m still being held by that love.

I’m just learning how to hold myself now. More of my story is coming.
