I'm still trying to wrap my head around Thanksgiving being next week! Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday because I love to cook and bake--it's genuinely how I show my love. But with my mother's passing two months ago, her birthday on November 28, and my oldest son on deployment AGAIN (this will be the second holiday season in a row he will be on a ship somewhere), I've been a bit emotional and gloomy lately. As I struggle with my personal challenges and what is happening worldwide, I know many others feel sad and anxious around the holidays, too.

I've always felt that movement is healing. Gentle yoga can calm our minds and bodies, while more rigorous practices can invigorate. Strength training can make us feel like a bad-ass, while dancing allows us to exercise while experiencing joy. The bottom line is movement creates more endorphins, raises our spirits, lubricates our joints, releases stress and tension, and improves strength and cardiovascular health.

With that in mind, I've promised to take at least one class a week. Sure, I move around when I teach, but my classes aren't about me--they are about the clients in the class. Taking a class myself, allowing myself to be guided by another instructor and focus on myself, is a step toward healing. --Dr. Candace

Every Saturday beginning on November 25 and ending on December 23, MoveStudio would like to feature two local vendors, artisans, or craftspeople. Do you make jewelry, soap, bath salts, unique paper goods, or edible treats? We'd love to support you! I'm scheduling now for the coming weeks!
