🚑🚒👏Today, members of Station 53 were honored with the Life Saving Award for their exceptional emergency medical response on July 7, 2026.

Crews from RE53, EN53, and TR53 responded to a vehicle collision and found a 62-year-old male unconscious and unresponsive in his car. Working seamlessly together, they provided critical care for the patient in cardiac arrest, achieving a return of spontaneous circulation before arriving at the Dallas emergency department. Because of their expert and rapid intervention, the patient ultimately left the hospital completely neurologically intact.

Congratulations to Thomas Freyman, Christopher Forister, Ethan Anguiano, Nathan Najmabadi, Joseph Gary, Steeven Martinez, David Higgins, Emilio Ferrari, and DeJohn Moore for this incredible save.

Today, what began as a planned ceremony at the station quickly became a live demonstration of exactly why these crews were being honored. While en route to present a Unit Citation and two Fireground Excellence Awards, many of the companies slated to receive recognition were dispatched to a working house fire with reports of two people possibly trapped inside.

The crews immediately went to work, rapidly extinguishing the fire and conducting a thorough search, thankfully confirming that nobody was inside the structure. Following the incident, the awards presentation was relocated directly to the scene they had just cleared. It was incredibly fitting to present awards for a past life-saving rescue on the active fireground of yet another intense operation.

The awards recognize their outstanding performance during a previous structure fire on March 28, 2026, on Norvell Drive. During that response, Captain Jason Gregory and Captain Thomas Keetch earned the Fireground Excellence Award for forcing entry into an adjoining room to extricate a trapped victim in a zero-visibility environment with severe hoarding conditions. The rapid and highly coordinated actions of all responding companies that night... EN32, EN05, EN34, TR53, BC08, EN53, RE32, RE05, and RE44... ensured the fire victim was extricated and transported for critical care while the remaining crews isolated the fire damage.

We are proud to congratulate these members for receiving this Outstanding Unit Citation.

On March 14, 2026, DFR units responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Julius Schepps Access Road and LBJ Freeway EB. Upon arrival, crews discovered a disoriented resident who had fallen from a bridge deck and was stranded on a structural beam directly above the water.

Engine 54 quickly spotted the victim in a position that couldn’t be reached by conventional methods. Members from Truck 25 and Engine 55 deployed a 35-foot extension ladder from the upper deck down into the creek below.

One crew member waded into the water to heel the ladder in the creek bed. One firefighter climbed down and made contact with the patient. Crew then lowered a harness and rigged a life safety rope over the ladder railing. Crews lowered a harness, guided the patient up the ladder and helped the patient up to the ambulance for immediate care and transport to the hospital.

The quick thinking, resourcefulness, and teamwork of every unit on scene turned a high-risk situation into a safe rescue. DFR proudly recognizes these members for their outstanding initiative, operational skill, and dedicated service to the community.

Some of our calls are literally off the beaten path.
A trail cyclist took a nasty spill and injured his ankle deep in an area inaccessible to trucks and standard rescue vehicles. Firefighters were able to locate the cyclist quickly and hiked down about 120 ft down to his location, safely secured him into a stretcher, and carried the patient up to the waiting rescue unit.

Great job by 57s for saving another life!! This time it was a 30 year old who went into cardiac arrest. When firefighters arrived he had no pulse. They immediately went to work with CPR and other life saving measures. He had a pulse by the time the firefighters arrived the hospital. Great job, y’all!! 👏👏👏

Congratulations to our members who responded to this call where they were able to execute a high-angle rescue with technical expertise and get the patient to safety. The responding crews were awarded a well deserved Unit Citation for their outstanding performance and operational excellence.

This patient was experiencing a heat-related emergency and removal of the patient through traditional means was impossible. Crews used the Heavy Rescue apparatus as an artificial high point, rigged a rope system, put the patient in a stokes basket and were able to lift the patient to safety while maintaining continuous medical monitoring.

Two more lives saved! DFR awarded two Life Saving Awards today to these members for saving the lives of two cardiac arrest patients who received nearly perfect care from these paramedics. The patients were subsequently able to leave the hospital neurologically intact!

Today Dallas Fire-Rescue was a given a special recognition for the work our firefighters do everyday.

Twenty-five years ago, we watched as hundreds of first responders ran toward danger without hesitation, sacrificing their lives to save others. September 11, 2001 was a defining moment in our history, marked by immense loss, profound heartbreak, and unimaginable bravery. 2,977 people lost their lives that day, including 72 law enforcement officers, and 343 firefighters.

Today we honor the promise we made to our fallen heroes that day – that we would “Never forget.” Every time we put on our uniform we honor the lives of those lost. We keep their memory alive with every call we make, every fire extinguished, and every life saved.
