Malo ni. My name is Tiveopa Tangimuimui~ki~ Kapi’olani Anthony, daughter of James Anthony III, granddaughter of Ta’ase, and a great-granddaughter of Nasau and Fekei. I was born in Hawaii and raised in Texas. From 2017 to 2021, I attended Matauala, Atafu, where I deepened my understanding of my tupuna’s gagana and aganuku. Te nofonofoga fakaTokelau.
Upon returning to the States, I developed a passion for wrestling in high school. Through discipline and perseverance, I qualified for the Texas State Championships in only my second year. I went on and became a District and Regional Champion and placed 3rd in the State of Texas my senior year. In 2023, I placed 5th at Folkstyle nationals, making me an All-American. The following season I was able to represent the state of Texas at Junior National Duals. I graduated in the top 1% of my class, 845 students, at Skyline High School, America’s first Magnet high school. I am now a freshman at the University of Texas (UT- an institution that admits students within the top 5% of their graduating class). I am honored to be an Impact Scholar Scholarship recipient and the second Tokelauan to attend UT, following my first cousin, Tieimi Wright (class of 2021, currently in Med School).
Guided by the belief that “Ko te mataku I te Atua ko te kamataaga o te poto,” I tried to honor my ancestors through excellence, faith, and service. Disregard what area of life we are seeking to be educated in. Our creator makes the impossible possible when we humble ourselves and call on Him in prayer for guidance. I hope one day, I will be able to positively contribute to the island my late father and I are so very proud of, Tokelau.
