Heads up: I found out my website was hacked, and it's a huge mess. I'm hoping to redirect to a backup server soon, but WOW, technology has not been kind to me this year. Please join me in welcoming Katie to the Dermestidarium team - my first employee! She was a graduate of our high school internship program last year, and impressed me so much with her hard work and attention to detail that I made it a goal to hire her this fall. So happy to have her back in the shop with me!

Out of state hunters: just a reminder that the state of Oregon does not allow cervid heads (deer, elk, moose, caribou) to be brought in from out of state. You can bring the cleaned skull cap, or a finished, cleaned Euro mount. This is a screenshot from the current regs that shows what *is* allowed to be imported. Sorry I can't help you if you have a cervid that was harvested elsewhere, but if you need an out of state referral feel free to ask.

Thank you to everyone who purchased ornaments during this year's very brief but successful conservation fundraiser, which allowed us to collectively donate $584 to support the wonderful work Quail Forever is doing. They were kind enough to mention the ornament fundraiser in their latest blog:

The annual Dermestidarium holiday ornament tradition & fundraiser is back, with a new twist! This year, you choose what to pay, with a minimum of $10 to cover my costs and shipping. Every dollar above that is donated to conservation, and this year’s donation recipient is so dang obvious I don’t know how I didn’t choose them years ago – Quail Forever!

Quail Forever is a division of Pheasants Forever, and they’re dedicated to the conservation of quail, pheasants and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public awareness, education and land management policies and programs.

These ornaments are made from the (real!) skulls of our wild quail’s domestic kin, the Coturnix quail, which were raised humanely for food on American small farms. The skulls are coated with real silver metal, and hang from a black satin ribbon.

Head over to my website to snag one or ten before they're gone! And yes, technically you can pay the minimum of $10 per ornament and opt out of donating, but I don't think you will. 😊
