Ten-ish years ago, a couple of young, hungry kids walked into the room with Coach Nick and Coach Keith. Fast forward a decade, and Brighton Karvoski (Greens Farms Academy) and Colby Houle (New York Military Academy) aren’t just standing tall on the national podium; they’re literally standing over their original coaches! 😂📏
From grinding out youth practices as part of the original OG Refinery crew to stacking up national honors, watching these two grow into absolute hammers on and off the mat is what Refinery Wrestling is all about.

Colby Houle takes out the returning Fargo Champion and Illinois State finalist to punch his ticket to the Round of 32! 💥

Big wins happen when preparation meets opportunity. Rankings don’t mean anything. Keep rolling, Colby! 👊🔥

Just talked with Joey Mahoney from Skopje, North Macedonia, where he’ll step onto the mat today(soon!) representing Great Britain 🇬🇧 at the U20 European Wrestling Championships.

Before competing, we asked him a few questions…

🇬🇧 What does it mean to represent Great Britain?
“It’s an honor to be representing this amazing country and be able to put Team GB on the map in the wrestling world.”

💙 What advice would you give the younger wrestlers at The Refinery?
“Trust your coaches. You have amazing coaches that are rooting for you and want to see you succeed. Just keep showing up and it’ll be worth it!”

💪 What are you looking forward to most?
“I’m looking forward to showing off all my hard work on the mat and being able to have fun!”

🔥 One final message?
“Embrace the challenge with open arms. Stay the course because it’ll all work out in the end.”

Our wrestling family is rallying around one of our own.

As many of you may have heard, Coach TJ and his family recently experienced the devastating loss of a house fire. While we’re incredibly grateful everyone is safe, they now face the difficult task of rebuilding their lives.

TJ is the Head Coach at Wolfgang Wrestling Club and Ledyard High School and has dedicated countless hours to mentoring, coaching, and making a difference in the lives of so many athletes. Now it’s our turn to support him.

🇺🇸 Due to Thursday’s 100° heat wave and so many of our athletes traveling for the holiday, The Refinery will be closed this Thursday. We will see everyone tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday for practice!

Every program has a beginning.

A throwback to five high school wrestlers (one off to college in Fall) who helped lay the foundation for what The Refinery has become. 🤍

Crazy to see how far everyone has come—on and off the mat. Grateful for the memories, the work, and the journey.

Huge congratulations to Kai on graduating from Appalachian State University and officially heading to Truit McConnell for his Master’s while continuing his wrestling career on a full ride.

Years of discipline, sacrifice, and hard work paying off exactly how they should. Proud is an understatement. Well earned and just getting started. 💪🤼‍♂️🎓
