I grew up in a small town in Greece called Karystos. About 5,000 people.

The elders in that town -- in their 70s, 80s, 90s -- were lean. Not gym-lean. Not diet-lean. Just naturally, effortlessly lean.

They didn't count calories. There was no gym in town. Nobody talked about their macros or their metabolism. Nobody was "being good."

They were just living. And their weight took care of itself.

When I moved to Danbury in my teens, I couldn't figure out why Americans were working so much harder at their health and getting so much less out of it.

Here's an analogy I use with every client.

Imagine your home thermostat is broken. It's set to 80 degrees -- too hot. You have two options.

Option 1: Open the windows and run fans constantly. Work hard every day to manually manage the temperature. The moment you stop, it goes right back to 80.

Option 2: Fix the thermostat. Now the house regulates itself. You don't have to think about it.

Most diets are Option 1. They work as long as you're fighting. The moment you stop fighting -- and everyone eventually stops -- you're right back where you started.

That's why 95% of people regain the weight. They were never fixing the thermostat. They were just running fans.

What I do is fix the thermostat. When your body's weight regulation system is working correctly, it maintains a healthy weight on its own. Without the fight.
