A fun core centric workout complex:
• Alternating DB shoulder press while holding those feet off the ground. It will keep those abs engaged and keep you out of lumbar extension.
• Single leg RDL with the cable to ensure the torso stays long and straight. This should keep the effort in the hamstrings and out of the lower back.
• Med ball throws from the floor. We went 10 up the middle before we rotated the pelvis for additional oblique recruitment and throw for another 10x each side.

Try it out and let us know what you think!

If you or your client is an athlete that gets knocked around a bit while they are playing their sport, this exercise is great for single leg stability and strength. Shannon is a soccer player that still needs to be fast and strong but gets pushed around occasionally. So we chose light weight with longer bands for her. If strength is a higher priority, we could add load to the bar and/or shorten the bands and add more weight. With practice we will get faster at stabilizing and less disrupted by external forces.

There are a lot of ways to vary this exercise to make it more transferable to your sport or activity.

Got Hip Impingement (that sensation of the joint preventing you from full range of motion)?
Miss Katie, feels this Impingement when she pulls her thigh close toward her chest.
This technique may optimize alignment and mobility of the joint, thereby decreasing excessive forces on irritable or weakened tissues. It may also identify specific movement patterns that may be causing injury.

Saturday morning team training:
After warmups, our plyos and movement skills had an absolute speed focus (perfect for recreational runners, athletes who may need to run more than 15 steps i.e. soccer players, or those looking for 30 minutes of fun "cardio”).
After 30 minutes, we are warmed up and prepared for strength training.
It’s a lot of fun for me to see everyone moving better, running better and getting stronger session over session!
