Noroton Yacht Club Founded in 1928, Noroton Yacht Club is dedicated to promoting family participation in sailboat racing The Club has a rich heritage of one-design racing.

Noroton Yacht Club, founded in 1928, is dedicated to promoting family participation in sailboat racing and recreational sailing. The Club is located in the Darien Harbor, just West of Long Neck Point, with easy access to Long Island Sound. Noroton's members are currently sailing Sonars, Vipers, Ideal 18s, JY15s, and Sunfish. In addition the Club has a fleet of over 50 Cruising boats. Our boats participate in Club races as well as other local, regional, national and off-shore distance racing and cruising events. The Club owns six Ideal 18's and 3 Sonars for the use of all members. Noroton also has a large, respected and well organized junior sailing program for ages from 8 to 18, member and non-member children sailing Optimists, Pixels, Lasers and C420's. Noroton hosts the Darien High School Sailing Team in the Spring and Fall, as well as LISOT on occasion.

This weekend 15 Teams from all corners of New England are competing for the Lipton Challenge Cup at Noroton Yacht Club.

5 races were completed on the first day, with ~ 10 knot winds from the East. The top 5 teams are separated by only 5 points, so if the monsoon let’s up today it’s anybody’s game.

Congratulations to all the teams that competed and brought their outstanding sailing skills, sportsmanship, and energy to the entire series.

Race Day One at the Chubb US Sailing Sears Cup: 16 teams, 64 sailors, 5 races. Western Long Island Sound delivered classic August conditions — light to medium breeze, relatively steady direction, and a tidal current that kept everyone on their toes.

Coach Dan Thompson’s mantra of the day: “Clean starts. Clear lanes. Clean roundings.” The teams who nailed it? They owned the leaderboard.

Short windward-leeward courses meant one thing: get off the line fast or get left behind. In most races, the first boat around the windward mark never looked back.
