City of Riverdale Bellingham Street Reconstruction
RIVERDALE, Iowa (September 15, 2026) – The City of Riverdale, in partnership with MSA
Professional Services, Inc. (MSA), will begin a phased roadway improvement project along
Bellingham Street in early to mid-September 2026. Construction is anticipated to continue through
the end of October 2026.
The project is intended to improve pavement conditions, drainage, roadway reliability, and the
overall experience and safety of those traveling along the corridor. Construction will occur in three
phases to help manage traffic impacts and maintain access where possible.
Phase 1 – Mobilization and Utility Work | Early/Mid-September through Early October
The first phase will include contractor mobilization, storm sewer improvements, and utility
coordination. Temporary lane closures and impacts to the multi-use trail are anticipated during this
phase; however, Bellingham Street is expected to remain generally open to traffic.
Phase 2 – Roadway Reconstruction | October 5–19
The second phase will include pavement removal and reconstruction, traffic signal cabinet
replacement, railroad approach pavement improvements, multi-use trail reconstruction, and potential
driveway reconstruction.
During this phase, Bellingham Street and the multi-use trail will be fully closed to allow
construction activities to be completed safely and efficiently. Motorists and trail users should plan to
use alternate routes during this period.
Phase 3 – Restoration and Project Completion | October 19 through the End of October
The final phase will focus on restoration and project closeout activities, including completion of any
remaining driveway work, seeding, site restoration, and punch-list items. Minor traffic restrictions
may be necessary as this work is completed. Access to the multi-use trail is anticipated to be
restored prior to the completion of this phase.
Construction schedules are subject to change based on weather, site conditions, utility coordination,
and other unforeseen circumstances. The City of Riverdale appreciates the public’s patience and
cooperation throughout construction and encourages motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists to use
caution when traveling near the project area.
