A bike can look perfect on paper, but the real test happens when you ride it.
Spirited Cyclist has several styles of demo bikes available so you can compare how they fit, handle and feel before making your decision. Tell us where you ride, how you like to ride and what you’re looking for, and our team will help narrow down the options.
Stop by the shop, take a few for a spin and find the bike that feels right for you.

Get to know your local bike mechnic, Stephen!
Bikes have been part of Stephen’s life for as long as he can remember. Today, he owns four of them and spends about 75% of his riding time off-road. His current dream bike is a 2027 Stumpjumper Pro, and his bucket-list trip is taking a mountain bike to Whistler, British Columbia.
Back in the shop, Stephen says rebuilding a wheel is one of the most challenging repairs he handles. Even during the colder months, he stays busy fixing and maintaining about 10 to 12 bikes each week.
And because every cyclist eventually gets asked: No, Stephen does not shave his legs. :)
Stop by Spirited Cyclist and say hello to Stephen. Better yet, bring him a bike that needs a little attention.

Most of us ride because we enjoy it, but every ride can also do something good for our health. Here are five research-backed reasons to spend more time on two wheels.
A healthier heart
Cycling gets your heart working and can help reduce the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease. A large 2024 research review found that cycling was associated with lower rates of coronary heart disease and cardiovascular-related death.
Better cardio fitness
Regular riding challenges your heart and lungs, helping your body deliver oxygen more efficiently. Cycling-specific research has found strong evidence that riding improves cardiorespiratory fitness, with greater benefits generally connected to riding more regularly.
Improved metabolic health
Cycling can help the body regulate blood sugar, use insulin more effectively and manage abdominal fat. In one six-month randomized study, inactive adults who began commuting by bicycle improved their insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular fitness.
A mental reset
Sometimes a ride is exactly what your head needs. A 2026 review of 87 cycling studies found generally positive effects on mood, depressive symptoms, cognitive function and social connection, particularly when people rode outdoors and participated regularly.
Low-impact exercise
Cycling provides aerobic exercise without the repeated pounding associated with many weight-bearing activities. Research involving people with knee osteoarthritis found that stationary cycling could reduce pain and improve physical function. A comfortable position and proper bike fit are still important, especially if you already experience knee, hip or back discomfort.
Whether your ideal ride is five miles around Davidson or an entire weekend fondo, the health benefits begin when you start pedaling. If your bike needs a little attention before your next ride, your neighborhood bike shop is here to help.

A few of our favorite frames from the 2026 Lake Norman Fondo.
There is something special about watching hundreds of cyclists roll out of downtown Davidson together. Some were chasing a fast time, others were taking on a new distance, and plenty were simply enjoying a great day on the bike with friends.
Thank you to every rider, volunteer and supporter who helped make this year’s Fondo another memorable one. We also want to recognize the sponsors whose support makes this event possible and allows 100% of the proceeds to benefit five Lake Norman-area nonprofits.
