Primero quiero agradecerle a , a Paco Varcarcel, a la y a todos lo que estuvieron presente hoy por el reconocimiento tanto a .zayas como a mí, y por el apoyo constante que siempre nos han brindado.

Tuve la dicha de que Xander llegara a mi gimnasio siendo un niño con una meta clara, y hoy estuve aquí de pie con un Campeón Mundial Junior Mediano de la OMB de 22 años. Es un honor ser su entrenador y también un honor que la OMB reconozca mi dedicación al deporte, a Xander, y al camino que seguimos construyendo.

Ahora comienza la segunda etapa de nuestra jornada, y espero contar con el continuo y genuino apoyo de esta hermosa isla hacia este joven y nuestro equipo.

From humble beginnings to world champion. I’ve been in this game a while now and trained world champions and former world champions, been under the bright lights, felt the pressure of the big stage. But this one… this one hit different.

I started coaching Xander Zayas when he was just a kid, taking him through the amateur ranks, city to city, tournament to tournament, chasing greatness. At 16, he signed with Top Rank and became the youngest fighter to do so. Fast Forward 22 professional fights and on July 26th, live from the NYC at just 22 years of age, he became the WBO Junior Middleweight Champion of the World with a unanimous decision victory of Jorge Garcia of Mexico.

Watching him grow inside the ring has been special, but watching the man he’s become outside the ring is what makes me the proudest. He’s stayed humble, focused, and driven through it all.

Now the belt is his, but so is the pressure. We’ve got a target on our backs and the work only gets harder from here, but we welcome it. His dream was to be a world champion, and now he is.

This isn’t just another fighter… this is my boy .zayas
