While we have come a long way from our past conflicts, we must never forget why many do the mission of Combat Rescue.

Remembrance, Reverence, Reflect pdm
In solemn reverence, we gather today,
To honor the brave who endured night and days of gray.
Captive and missing, in battles,conflicts, countries far and wide,
Their courage and sacrifice we shall hold with pride.
A table set for one, a symbol of their plight,
Round to show concern, pure cloth in white.
A rose stands alone, red as the blood they shed,
While ribbons of yellow keep hope from being dead.
A slice of lemon for fate’s bitter sting,
Salt for the tears that their absence brings.
A candle burns bright, a beacon in the night,
Guiding them homeward with its gentle light.
Chairs remain empty, glasses turned down,
In our hearts and minds, they will always wear a crown.
Greedom’s sweet song is sung by the few,
Who gave all they had for the red, white, and blue.
Let us remember on this sacred day,
The heroes who fought and those still away.
With flags held high and voices strong,
We vow to remember them all lifelong.

US Coast Guard’s specialized Rescue Swimmer or the official name is Aviation Survival Technician (AST). This one of the Coast Guard’s most challenging program.
Here you see, AST3 Jayson Evans conducting hoist operations from a helicopter in preparation to recover a survivor out of the water. He trained with SFTA in 2019.

The Rescue Swimmer school, as seen in 2006 movie “The Guardian” gives you a glimpse of the mindset & fitness level that is required. You will learn how to deal with emergencies working in the water as well as on land. The climate & terrain you will work in will vary from hot to cold & ocean to mountain cliffs. The medical training includes an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course that gets you ready to treat patient emergencies. AST’s learn how to conduct themselves as a member of the helicopter crew during air operations training.

To become a Rescue Swimmer in the USCG requires commitment, dedication, and being goal oriented, not to mention the high level of physical fitness required. If you want this job but are not ready now…well,let’s get started.

Distinctive recognition came to Pararescuemen in early 1966. General John P. McConnell, then Air Force Chief of Staff, approved the wearing of the maroon beret.

The maroon beret symbolizes the blood sacrificed by Pararescuemen and their devotion to duty by aiding others in distress.
