Powwow at UC Davis

Join us at 12:30pm at the UC Davis Powwow to honor the life of our long-time Master of Ceremonies, Tom Phillips, with a Blanket Dance, Empty Chair, and Honor Song, expressing our utmost gratitude for the hard work and dedication Tom has shown to the UC Davis Powwow committee and community throughout the many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during these difficult times.

Join us for the 50th Annual UC Davis Powwow this Saturday, April 4th, 2026! As, we get closer to our event we kindly ask you to attend with respect and proper protocol, through following our Powwow Etiquette:

General Respect and Conduct

- No alcohol, drugs or being under the influence

- Appropriate dress and behavior are required.

- Be mindful of elders and community members with accessibility needs.

The Arena

- Do not enter the arena once it has been blessed

- Intertribal dances are open to all

- Listen to the MC.

Photography, Video, and Recording

- Do not take photos or videos during prayers, blessings, or certain songs.

- Ask for permission before taking photos or videos

- Do not record drum songs

The UC Davis Powwow Committee, American Indian Recruitment & Retention (AIRR), and Native Dads Network are honored to invite you to the 𝙄𝙣𝙖𝙪𝙜𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙐𝘾 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙨 𝘽𝙞𝙜 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 TOMORROW on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟯𝗿𝗱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, from 𝟱 𝗣𝗠 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟭 𝗣𝗠!
Come experience an evening filled with Traditional California shake head dancers, local Native vendors, local organizations resource booths, and a gathering that uplifts culture, identity, and community.
This Big Time is more than an event, it's a celebration of resilience and tradition. Bring your family, your friends, and your good energy. We look forward to seeing you there!

Please note that 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀. However, the first 100 parking spots will be covered at no cost—available on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you are a registered vendor or part of a dance group, parking arrangements have already been taken care of, so you do not need to worry about parking fees.

With heavy hearts, we share that Tom Phillips Sr. passed away, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Tom's Go Fund Me will now go toward honoring Tom’s wishes to be brought home to Oklahoma, and to support Wanda with travel and related expenses so she can be with him and family during this time.

Culture Week 2026 is here! 🎉

Join us for a week of community, culture, and celebration at UC Davis from March 30 – April 4. From workshops and wellness events that lead up to Big Time and Powwow!

Tom Phillips, Sr. has been a major pillar of the UC Davis Powwow and other countless powwow across California and beyond, bringing people together, honoring traditions, and upholding culture, protocol, and respect.

Today, Tom is in hospice care. His family is asking for support from community to ensure he is cared for with the same love, generosity, and dignity that he has shown to so many throughout his life.
