We’ve been a little quiet on Facebook lately…but The Den definitely hasn’t been quiet. 👊

Kids are putting in WORK.

Getting stronger. Getting faster. Learning how to wrestle. Building confidence. And most importantly, becoming part of a pretty awesome group of young athletes.

We started The Den because we wanted to build something different for kids in our area. A place where beginners can walk through the door having never wrestled or trained before and feel comfortable, while experienced athletes can come in and be pushed to another level.

There was a different energy in The Den today. 🔥

Coach Des Stephens brought the intensity from the moment training started. Every drill had a purpose. Every rep had coaching behind it. The kids weren’t just getting a workout, they were learning the details, building confidence, and being pushed to become better athletes.

The best coaches don’t just tell kids what to do… they teach them why they’re doing it. That’s exactly what Des brings every time he steps on the mat.

James is one of Michigan's top young wrestlers and has built a reputation through relentless work ethic, toughness, and success on the mat.

🏆 Career Highlights
• MHSAA Division 1 All-State Wrestler
• 2025 MHSAA State Finals Place Winner
• Michigan USA Wrestling Freestyle State Champion
• Michigan USA Wrestling Greco-Roman State Champion
• Walled Lake Northern / Walled Lake United standout
• Collegiate wrestler at Indiana Tech University

James brings high-level experience from both folkstyle and freestyle competition and is passionate about helping the next generation of wrestlers improve their technique, confidence, and mindset.

Whether you're just getting started or you're chasing a state championship, this is an opportunity to learn from an athlete who has competed at the highest levels in Michigan and is now continuing his wrestling career at the collegiate level.

Clinic Coach Spotlight: Nate Carter

Nate Carter of Clarkston High School has signed to represent SMC on the mat.

This season, Carter went an incredible 44-3, adding to his career record of 164-30. He is a four-time Michigan state placer and 2026 Division 1 State Champion. Carter was an All-County Champion four times and county finalist three times, in addition to being a three-time Central Regional Freestyle Champion and three-time Michigan National Team member.

He won 1st place in the Tournament of Champions and was named 1st Team All Michigan Dream Team in the 144-Ib weight class: R Hesson said of Carter, "Nate has a great combination of tremendous skill and work ethic. He's a competitor who is fun to watch on the mat. Nate himself said it best: 'all the hard work and early morning workouts have paid off!' Welcome to SMC Wrestling!"

Carter joins Preston Hammond of New Prairie, Indiana; Darius Ambs of Mason and Theodore (TJ) Mitchell of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, in the 2026 recruiting class.

In 2025-2026, the Roadrunners won the MCCAA Conference championship for the fourth straight season and qualified the maximum ten wrestlers for the national meet. SMC finished the season at #17 in the country and sophomores Santana Ramon and Kaden Lapaugh were named All-Americans.

Aaron, Nick, and Des’ training schedules are now posted, and our upcoming clinics are open for registration!

If you’ve been waiting to book your sessions, now’s the time. Spots are limited and will fill quickly.

How to Book:

✅ Download the GloFox app.
✅ Search The Den Athletics.
✅ Tap Filters (top right).
✅ Select Aaron, Nick, or Des.
✅ Choose your day and time.
✅ Reserve your session!

⚠️ Before You Book

If you’re registering your child, please make sure you complete these two important steps first:

1️⃣ Add your child to your Family Account.
2️⃣ Sign all required waivers for every athlete.

If these aren’t completed, your child won’t be able to participate in training or clinics.

Wow.

Tonight exceeded every expectation we had.

To everyone who came out to support The Den’s Grand Opening… thank you. We honestly believe we had well over 100 people walk through our doors tonight, and seeing our facility filled with that kind of energy was something we’ll never forget.

Every handshake, every conversation, every parent who trusted us enough to ask questions, every athlete who stepped on the mats or turf, and every friend who simply showed up to support us, it all meant more than you know.

The Den was built with one vision: to create a place where athletes can develop confidence, discipline, toughness, and character while chasing their goals. Tonight confirmed that this community believes in that vision too.

This is bigger than wrestling. Bigger than speed training. Bigger than football.

It’s about investing in the next generation.

To everyone who came tonight, thank you for making our first night one we’ll remember forever. We are humbled, grateful, and more motivated than ever to make The Den a place this community is proud of.

This is just the beginning.
