Just a little over a week ago I was privileged to be trained by The Legend Mike Mather of Mather Rescue.

We all got together for the Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Course at Eastwood MetroPark in Dayton, OH. It was a highlight for me to complete the course and to have been trained by the best! I want to thank Five Rivers MetroParks for offering this course.

We learned so much. Everything was so good! From reading the river, understanding hydraulics, knot tying, how to throw and repack rope and working as a team.

Can’t wait for the next course! We were so busy training there wasn’t time for pics & vids.

He has taught rescue, safety, and instructor development courses throughout the United States and Europe, bringing a practical, approachable teaching style that resonates with rescue professionals, paddlers, guides, and recreational boaters alike.

His extensive training experience includes work with organizations such as U.S. Navy SEALs, U.S. Air Force Pararescue (PJs), San Diego Lifeguards, Los Angeles County Lifeguards, FDNY, Eagle County (Colorado) Fire Rescue, and numerous public safety agencies, outdoor programs, and guide services across the country.
👉A lifelong student of rescue systems and river safety, Mike has collaborated with innovators and leaders in the field, tested emerging rescue equipment, contributed to rescue training media, and developed a reputation for combining technical expertise with real-world experience. Whitewater legend Kent Ford described Mike as a “highly skilled person with a valuable set of skills, including guiding, guide training, and broad national experience in swiftwater rescue.”
