Dayton Champions Baseball League - DCBL

It is with profound sadness that the DCBL announces the passing of David Geiger of the Springfield Angels.

Known throughout the local baseball community as a genuinely good guy both on and off the field, Dave had an incredible passion for the game. He spent more than a decade playing adult amateur baseball throughout both the Dayton and Cincinnati areas, often competing in several leagues concurrently.

Dave was the type of player who would grind out an at-bat, play wherever his team needed him, and compete with passion every time he stepped onto the field. He embodied exactly what adult amateur baseball is about, guys who continue playing the game because they genuinely love it, love competing, and love being around their teammates.

The local baseball community lost one of its own, and Dave’s presence will be deeply missed by his teammates, opponents, coaches, and everyone who had the opportunity to share a field with him.

Our thoughts are with Dave’s family, friends, and the entire Springfield Angels team during this incredibly difficult time.

Players of the Week: August 23rd, 2026

Jeff Somuk earns Hitter of the Week after a huge 2-game sweep for the Aviators. Over two games, Somuk batted .667 and launched two home runs, the second of which was a walk-off blast down by one run against the Dodgers.

Branyen Brown takes Pitcher of the Week after picking up a crucial win to move the Angels into third place. He went six innings allowing no earned runs and striking out five.

Weekly Recap: August 23rd, 2026

—— Daniel Barhorst Grand Slam Powers Wolves Past Rangers, 7–4

Daniel Barhorst delivered the biggest swing of the game Sunday, launching a grand slam to center field as the Dayton Wolves defeated the Dayton Rangers 7–4 at Valley View High School.

The Rangers struck first with an RBI single from Kyle Moyer in the opening inning, but the Wolves tied the game in the second when Mike Barhorst drew a bases-loaded walk. Kyle Markle then gave the Wolves a 2–1 lead with an RBI single in the third.

The Wolves broke the game open in the fourth. Daniel Barhorst’s grand slam highlighted a five-run inning and pushed the lead to 7–1.

Andrew Simones earned the win, working six innings and striking out six. Jake Sanders closed the game to earn the save. The Wolves also played error-free defense.

Rob Pederson cut into the deficit with a two-run homer for the Rangers in the sixth, but the Wolves held on for the 7–4 victory.

Daniel Barhorst finished with four RBI to lead the Wolves offense, while Markle, Dylan Sanders and Jake Sanders also recorded hits.

——Aviators Upset Wolves, 11–7

The Wilmington Aviators pulled off an upset Sunday, rallying to defeat the Dayton Wolves 11–7 at Valley View High School. The loss was just the second of the season for the Wolves.

The Wolves jumped out to a 4–1 lead through three innings, but Wilmington responded with three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 4–4, capped by an RBI single from Nick Antonides.

Pat Raiff briefly put the Wolves back in front with a solo home run, but the Aviators took control in the fifth. John Hatfield delivered an RBI single and Mikias Maher drew a bases-loaded walk as Wilmington moved ahead 7–5 and never gave the lead back.

The Aviators finished with 13 hits and nine walks. Antonides led the offense with three hits, while Maher and Jackson Lightcap each drove in two runs. John Rosenmayer added two hits, and Wilmington stole five bases.

Noah Curi provided relief work for the Aviators after Kyle Heath started on the mound.

The Wolves were led by Dylan Sanders, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Raiff finished 3-for-4 with a home run. Wilmington’s victory handed the Wolves a rare defeat in what has otherwise been a dominant season.

——Somuk’s Walk-Off Homer Lifts Aviators Past Dodgers, 6–5

The Wilmington Aviators pulled off a dramatic 6–5 walk-off victory over the Dodgers on Sunday at Valley View High School.

Trailing 5–4 in the bottom of the seventh, Jeff Somuk delivered the game-winning blow with a two-run homer to center field. It was his second home run of the game after also going deep in the first inning.

The Dodgers jumped out to an early lead behind a home run from Iverson Ventura and later built a 5–2 advantage in the third. Wilmington continued to chip away before Somuk ended it in the seventh.

The Aviators piled up 14 hits, led by Somuk and Ruben Fernandez with three apiece. Braydon Black, Mikias Maher, and Brady Klein also recorded multiple hits.

John Rosenmayer and Aaron Galaska each threw scoreless innings in relief to keep Wilmington within striking distance.

Ventura led the Dodgers with two hits and three RBI, but Somuk’s two-homer performance proved to be the difference in a wild finish.

——Angels Capitalize on Walks to Defeat Redlegs, 6–1

The Springfield Angels defeated the Camden Redlegs 6–1 on Sunday despite being outhit 6–3.

Springfield struck early with two runs in the first inning, getting an RBI groundout from Justin Brown and an RBI single from Nick Andrews.

The Angels took advantage of 13 walks throughout the game to create scoring opportunities, while starter Branyen Brown kept the Redlegs in check. Brown allowed six hits and just one unearned run over six innings, striking out four.

Austin Hubbard struck out nine over five innings for Camden but was hurt by nine walks, allowing five runs, four earned.

Jacob Robinson led the Redlegs with two hits. Andrews collected two hits for Springfield, while Leland Cancilla drove in two runs and Jaren Vizcarrondo drew three walks and stole two bases.

The Dayton Champions Baseball League is excited to announce that we have officially secured an eighth team for the 2027 season!

The new team already has a strong foundation, with a core group of 12 committed players. Its head coach brings five years of experience in men’s amateur baseball, while members of the team collectively bring nearly a decade of experience at this level.

The team will temporarily operate as the Fairborn Baseball Club while its permanent name, branding, and other details are finalized.

Adding an eighth team gives the DCBL an even number of teams marking an exciting step in the continued growth of our league. We are also actively communicating with several other experienced individuals and groups interested in forming additional teams, meaning further expansion to nine or even 10 teams could be on the horizon.

We look forward to welcoming the Fairborn Baseball Club to the DCBL! Additional information will be announced in the coming months.
