I had this question come up today in the gym: “Is a personal trainer worth the money, or a waste of time?” 💪

My answer as a coach? It depends on the trainer—and what you’re willing to put into it.

A good trainer should do more than count reps and make you sore. Anybody can wear you out. Coaching takes more than that.

You’re paying for a plan that fits YOUR goals, YOUR ability, and YOUR life. Someone who teaches you proper technique, adjusts when something isn’t working, and helps you make progress you can build on.

You should understand WHY you’re doing an exercise, how to do it, and when it’s time to push a little harder. You should leave with more confidence, not just tired legs.

And yes, accountability matters. Some days you need encouragement. Other days you need somebody to say, “Come on. You’ve got more in you.” 👊

But here’s my coach truth: I can guide you, encourage you, and build the plan. YOU still have to do the work. What you do between sessions matters just as much as what we do together.

After losing over 100 pounds myself, I know how frustrating starting over can be. That’s a big part of why I coach. I want to help people build habits they can actually keep.

A good trainer should help you become stronger, more capable, and more confident doing this for yourself. That’s value that carries beyond a training session.

If you need help getting started—or getting moving forward again—I’ve got room for you.

Now I want to hear YOUR side: Have you worked with a personal trainer before? What was your experience—good or bad—and did you feel it was worth the money?

💪 TAKING A GLP-1? YOU STILL NEED TO TRAIN AND FUEL YOUR BODY.

As a coach, I want you losing body fat while protecting the muscle that keeps you strong, active, and independent.

GLP-1 medications can help reduce appetite and support weight loss. But eating less doesn’t automatically mean eating well. When your appetite drops, it’s easy to fall short on protein, calories, and essential nutrients.

And that weight coming off? Some of it can be muscle—especially if you’re under-eating and skipping strength training.

Here’s what I want you focusing on:

✅ Strength training. Make it a regular part of your week. Weights, machines, bands, and bodyweight exercises all count. Start at your level and build from there. Give your body a reason to keep that muscle!

✅ Get your protein in. Include protein at each meal: chicken, turkey, lean beef, pork tenderloin, fish, shrimp, eggs, Greek yogurt, or cottage cheese. A protein shake can help fill a gap, too. Protein and strength training work together.

✅ Eat with a plan. Know your protein goal and get enough carbohydrates, healthy fats, fiber, and overall nutrition. Your macros should fit YOUR needs. You don’t have to hit every number perfectly, but consistently under-fueling yourself won’t help you get stronger.

✅ Keep moving. Walking and cardio support your heart, fitness, and overall health alongside your strength work.

✅ Look beyond the scale. Pay attention to your strength, energy, measurements, and how you function. A smaller number is only part of the picture.

The medication can help with appetite. The daily habits help build lasting results.

If you’re on this journey and need guidance, I can help you build a realistic strength program, understand your nutrition goals, and stay accountable—alongside your medical provider’s care.

Let’s work toward a body that feels better, moves better, and stays strong. 💪

Everybody talks about Reta—retatrutide—for weight loss. But I’m paying attention to more than the scale. 👊

Here’s what I’ve personally noticed since starting it:

✅ My ankle arthritis bothers me WAY less, and moving feels better. I believe reduced inflammation may be part of that for sure.
✅ My cholesterol is lower according to my blood work.
✅ My A1c has improved. Even though it was already at 4.9 it’s not right at 4.0.
✅ I have a history of low blood sugar, but I haven’t experienced those episodes since starting. That’s my experience—not a claim that Reta treats hypoglycemia.

My blood pressure hasn’t been an issue, so I’m not claiming a change there.

Research has also reported improvements in blood sugar control, liver fat, blood pressure, cholesterol, knee arthritis pain, and obstructive sleep apnea in the groups studied. Some of those improvements may come partly from weight loss.

For me, feeling better and seeing improved blood work matter just as much as what I weigh.

Retatrutide is still investigational and isn’t FDA-approved. This is my personal experience, not a recommendation or a promise of anyone else’s results.

Five people I’m helping. Five reasons to keep doing what I do. 💪

• 22 pounds down in 3 months
• 22 pounds down in 2 months
• 28 pounds down in 3 months
• 15 pounds down in 2½ months
• 6 pounds down in just 3 weeks

That’s 93 pounds lost between them—and a whole lot of progress worth celebrating.

This is about more than a number on the scale. It’s about working toward better health, feeling better, and being able to do more of the things you love.

Everybody’s journey is different. You don’t have to match someone else’s pace—you just have to take that first step and keep showing up.

I can help you, too. Ready to get started? Ask me how.

Your core works during most lifts. That doesn’t mean it never needs its own training. 💪

Squats, deadlifts, presses and carries all ask your core to work. But I still want you spending time building strength, endurance and control throughout that whole system.

Your core includes your abs, obliques, deep abdominal muscles, back muscles, diaphragm and pelvic floor. They work together to support your spine and transfer force when you move.

A weak core CAN contribute to lower back trouble. But every sore back isn’t a weak-core problem—injuries, joint issues and other conditions can play a role too.

Here’s how I like to cover the bases:

✅ Front of the core—upper and lower emphasis
Controlled crunches and reverse crunches. Your “upper” and “lower” abs aren’t separate muscles, but changing the movement can shift the emphasis. On reverse crunches, gently curl your pelvis up instead of swinging your legs.

✅ Deep or “inner” core
Dead bugs, heel slides and controlled planks. Keep your ribs over your pelvis, gently brace around your whole waist and keep breathing. You should control the movement without your lower back excessively arching.

✅ Sides of the core
Side planks, Pallof presses and suitcase carries. Train your ability to resist twisting and leaning—not just your ability to bend.

✅ Back and hip support
Bird dogs and glute bridges. Move slowly, keep your pelvis steady and avoid cranking your lower back to finish the rep.

✅ Pelvic floor
Yes, men need to pay attention here too! Practice relaxed breathing and, when appropriate, a gentle pelvic floor lift on the exhale followed by a FULL release. Constant squeezing isn’t the goal. Pelvic pain, pressure or leaking deserves guidance from a pelvic floor therapist.

My coaching tip: Start with 2–3 short sessions a week. Pick 3–4 movements, do 2 controlled sets, and build from there. Try 6–12 slow reps or 15–30-second holds, depending on the exercise.

Make it harder when you can maintain control—not when you can survive another sloppy rep. If a movement causes pain, adjust it or get it assessed.

Train the core to help you lift, move and live stronger. The six-pack is only part of the story.

Nobody really warns you about the lonely part of changing your life.

You start exercising, eating better, growing in your faith, and taking care of yourself—and sometimes you catch grief for it.

“Come on, skip it.”
“One night won’t hurt.”
“You’ve changed.”

Well, yes. That was the point.

But there can be an awkward stretch where you don’t fit into your old habits anymore and haven’t quite found the people who support your new ones. That’s when it’s tempting to slide backward just to feel like you belong.

I know what it took to turn my health and my life around. I also know how easy it would be to fall back into what was familiar.

I can love my friends and still say no. I can enjoy life and still protect the progress I’ve worked for.

If you’re in that awkward stretch, keep going. Find people who encourage you, and be that person for somebody else.

You shouldn’t have to give up on yourself to fit in.

This morning’s devotional really hit home. A perfect reminder as I reset my focus on my work and exercise. 🙏

“Therefore honor God with your bodies.” — 1 Corinthians 6:20

God has entrusted us with these bodies, and we all have a responsibility to care for them to the best of our ability. Eating well, moving regularly, getting enough rest, and being mindful of our choices are ways we can honor that gift.

That responsibility carries into our work and relationships too: showing up with purpose, treating people with kindness, and using our time and abilities to serve others.

I encourage people every day, but I need these reminders myself. We can all take an honest look at our habits and ask: Am I caring for what God has given me?

We don’t have to change everything overnight. We can start today with one better choice and build from there.

Lord, help us honor You in how we care for our bodies, do our work, and treat one another. Give us the discipline to follow through and grateful hearts for another opportunity to grow. 💚💪

One of the strangest questions people ask when you’ve been fit long enough is, “How old are you?”

I started my fitness journey in my late 30s. Back then, people would ask, “What’s your routine?”

In my 40s, it became, “Wait…how old are you?”

Now I’m 60, and the response is usually, “There’s no way!”

That’s when you realize your body is no longer the flex—your consistency is.

When people start responding to your age with disbelief, you’re not just in shape anymore—you’ve become the anomaly.

I didn’t get here overnight. This is more than 20 years of showing up, putting in the work and refusing to let age become my excuse.

You can’t stop getting older—but you can absolutely change what getting older looks like and feels like . 💪
