It is with great sadness that we share that, after nearly two decades serving the Decatur community, Move Functional Fitness / CrossFit East Decatur will hold its final class on Saturday, November 28.
This is an incredibly difficult thing to say.
When we started CrossFit East Decatur in 2008, working out together in Glenlake Park, we knew we had found something we loved doing.
We could never have imagined where it would lead, how long the journey would last, or how many people would become part of it along the way.
Over the years, thousands of people have walked through our doors.
We have watched strangers become friends. Couples become families.
We’ve watched kids grow up, graduate from college, and begin thinking about families of their own.
Together, we’ve experienced all of the things life tends to bring with it.
Joy and sadness. Love and heartbreak. Wins and losses.
New jobs, marriages, babies, illnesses, injuries, celebrations, goodbyes, PRs, terrible workouts, and probably more burpees than any of us care to remember.
And through all of it, this place has been here.
More importantly, you have been here.
We love this gym. We love the workouts. We love coaching.
But more than any of that, we love the friends and family we have made here over all of these years.
That is what we will miss the most.
For our final month, we’re going back to our roots.
Classic old-school JB and Shana-style programming. X-Men Fridays. CrossFit benchmarks. Partner workouts. Old favorites that some of you will remember—and probably a few you’ll wish you had forgotten.
There is no good way to say goodbye to something that has been such a large part of our lives for so long.
But there is still some time left, and we intend to make the most of it.
To everyone who has ever walked through our doors, coached a class, suffered through a workout, cheered for someone else, brought a friend, trusted us, supported us, or simply been part of this community:
