New Report Outlines Potential to Predict Coastal Cliff Collapses
The sites included Beacon's Beach in Encinitas, a beach with a public access trail on an intermittently moving complex landslide; Railway Corridor in Del Mar, a critical coastal rail corridor overlooking a beach below unstable bluffs; and San Elijo State Beach, a beach with eroding cliffs and a cliff top campground, park facilities and public access points.

Following a four-year study, scientists at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography released a new report to determine if an early warning system could potentially detect a landslide before it happens.

6 San Diego County ZIP codes make list of the nation’s priciest
San Diego County’s status as a home for the wealthy just added another notch in its Hermès belt.
Six local ZIP codes made PropertyShark’s annual list of the 100 most expensive areas. Rancho Santa Fe (92067) was the top San Diego County ZIP, at No.14, with a median sale price of $4.4 million. That was down from No. 10 last year and No. 9 in 2024.
While Rancho Santa Fe’s diminished status might not play well at the country club, San Diego County is still in elite territory: The region added a sixth ZIP code — up from five last year — and three of the areas were at record high sale prices.
Aside from Rancho Santa Fe, all of San Diego County’s top ZIPs were on the coast: Del Mar, Coronado, Solana Beach, La Jolla and Cardiff

Rain and possible thunderstorms expected in San Diego County this week
Rain is expected to return to San Diego County this week, with the National Weather Service forecasting cooler temperatures, showers and a chance of thunderstorms across the region.
According to NWS, widespread light to moderate rain is expected across the region Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning, with thunderstorms possible.

San Diego beaches brace for winter storms after the latest punch from the Pacific
San Diego's coastline is facing another round of powerful surf, dangerous rip currents and potential beach erosion as coastal cities prepare for winter storms.
The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement early Sunday, forecasting waves reaching 7 feet and an increased risk of drowning in dangerous rip currents.
Meanwhile, cities including Del Mar and Oceanside are working to protect their beaches and neighborhoods from future flooding.

The owners of San Diego Wave FC have proposed a new soccer stadium as the part of a large-scale development on the Del Mar Fairgrounds property.
A 12,000-16,000 seat soccer stadium would be the centerpiece of a project that could also include a hotel, convention center, retail businesses and restaurants.

Great white shark’s ‘aggressive behavior’ shuts Southern California beach down
Authorities in Huntington Beach have shut down a beach after a large great white shark “exhibiting aggressive behavior” was spotted in the water.
Officials with the Huntington Beach Fire Department made the announcement just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, saying the 10-to-12-foot great white was spotted in the water near Lifeguard Tower 16, prompting the beach’s closure from Seapoint Street to the Huntington Beach Pier until Wednesday at 3 p.m.
