One of the most recognizable holes in all of golf, the par-5 sixth at Pebble Beach now has its final piece of a multi-faceted restoration complete.

Two years ago, the green was recontoured to its original size and design intent, including recapturing a dynamic front-left hole location that had been lost over time.

Last year, the championship tee was moved back 21 yards.

And earlier this summer, the fairway bunkers left of the drive zone were restored to the original design of one singular, shallower bunker with four grass islands, positioned 10 yards tighter to the cliff.

Together, these changes are intended to restore the risk/reward nature Neville and Grant envisioned when routing this iconic par 5.

The fourth hole at Pebble Beach will look a little different to viewers of next week’s PURE Insurance Championship Impacting First Tee broadcast.

Earlier this summer, its tee complex was shifted left to realign the angle of play more towards the cliff and reveal previously hidden views of Stillwater Cove.

In addition, the fairway bunkering was restored to its original design of one singular bunker set at an angle and framing a significantly narrower fairway.

Together, these changes present a more strategic and captivating tee shot as players begin the first of seven straight holes along the famous coastline.

As Gil Hanse and team put the finishing touches on their work, the baton is being passed to our outstanding agronomy team at Spanish Bay.

Most holes are now grassed, including the opening and closing par-fives that bookend the round while simultaneously framing unforgettable views for guests of The Inn.

Less than six months removed from closing, the transformation of Spanish Bay is more evident by the day.
