Pulled in at 4 AM this morning (just in time to start my real job work day😩) after leaving Kentucky last night after Rachel did her victory gallop in the Rolex ring earning eighth place and finishing on her Dressage score in a division w 42 competitors in her very first American eventing championships on marshmallow!

What an amazing weekend and experience this was! And to be in the presence of Olympians like David, O’Connor and Boyd Martin at the iconic Kentucky horse park was over the top exciting.

I’m really proud of this team working so hard this year.

This was such a touching moment in the Rolex ring. Boyd Martin winning the AEC advanced prize on the horse that Liz Halliday (Number one woman event Rider) Was developing at the time she had her devastating accident two years ago to the date at the AEC. Boyd and Liz enjoyed the victory Gallup together Albeit unconventional . Anybody that’s met Boyd Martin would probably agree. What an amazing, kind and humblehuman being he is. Just another fine example of some super amazing sportsmanship in the sport of eventing.Rachel and I unfortunately witnessed Liz devastating accident happen reminding us how dangerous it can be For even the best of riders.

And she’s Clean Cross country! Marshy even brought a snack w him for the job🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mom can breathe.

Breezed through the water like a champ, over the brush (3 feet) …..yes he jumped OVER the top of the brush…. And just ahead of the speed faults mark (little fast)

So proud of this little team today who rose to the toughest challenge to date for this pair who just recently started jumping 2ft.

Lily set a goal of wanting the to learn to ride the pony medal courses on Honey Bee w hopes to qualify for the year end IHJA pony medal final in the big derby ring .

We schooled the course the night before and she did so well she opted to do the shorter path of inside turn roll backs today which she executed well even getting her lead changes.

It’s been 3 yrs since Rachel and Honey bee did the real division courses, but Honey Bee didnt forget her job. She got all her leads and strides and Lily piloted her well around several courses today earning second and 4th overall in the pony hunter classic, and she was so nervous she forgot her plan to halt in the medal but still got 5th place which will qualify them for the final in a few weeks .

I have been a horse husband for 22 years and have learned a few survival tips and tricks over the years in navigating the psychology/psychosis of your equestrian, an anonymous contributor writes. The horse comes first.

I have witnessed my wife in an evening gown and high heels muck out a horse stall. Too many date nights and engagements have been rescheduled due to mysterious horse ailments that only the equestrian can see. “Something seems off with Pookie” means we are waiting for the vet. A horse will throw a shoe at the most inopportune moments. I suspect our horses know when we are going somewhere and have mastered the “sympathy limp.” Your horse will receive chiropractic treatments, massage therapy, new $250 shoes every six weeks, a new haircut when it is hot out, and a regular sheath cleaning. DO NOT COMPLAIN about any of these things, especially the sheath cleaning, or their costs, as you will lose this argument. Just nod sagely and go drink a b**r.

“Can you help me for a second?”

This is a trap. It is never a second. Horse people have zero concept of time. There are cross ties everywhere and enough bailing twine to circle the earth in every barn. Holding a lead rope with a horse attached is an invitation to be mauled, stepped on, or nibbled at. The horse knows a noob when it sees one and will instantly haze you. Equestrians have superhuman strength they can utilize, but it can only be called upon while in a barn. They don’t need your help. You are there to offer empathy for any and all barn and horse issues of the day. Grab a b**r, sit down, and listen while agreeing with everything said.

And that’s a wrap on Pony finals national jumper championships, and almost ready to close the chapter with this amazing Pony as Rachel ages out of mediums this year.

One heartbreaking rail this week carrying only 4 faults through 5 rounds kept them out out of the winners circle , but she finished pretty respectfully ranked 9th out of a field of 80!

I’m very proud of the hard work this kid put in the last year, especially. And I couldn’t be prouder of Marshmallow aka Monkey Business, our “bargain basement” pony. He always gives 110% regardless of what kind of riding is done on his back or how he feels. And he’s never the fastest. So he’s got to be agile.

Heading back home to prep for the American event championships at the end of August !
