Hey! I'm creating a group page for a Columbus Rugby Network. I am hoping to utilize this page to share information about all the clubs in the area, Union info, USA rugby news, and potentially info on professional competitions and where to view them. I also hope to host different social and educational rugby based events, open to all rugby lovers. A long, long time ago, in a land far away I volunteered as coach and performed as a referee for Wesleyan.

Hey there owu rugby alumni since we are getting new uniforms we are selling off a few of the older uniforms in the hopes to raise some more money for the rugby team to hopefully pay for a new rugby shed. Wouldn't you love an old owu jersey to hang in your house or wear every once in a while. We are selling off numbers 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 21. We are asking for 20$ a uniform. Columbus men's, W1823, OSU men's & women, High School players & anyone else who wishes to join the Tiger Academy - this is a message for you.

Starting Monday next week(6/12/17) we will be adding 3 extra skill/position specific sessions at the Tiger Academy. We understand that some people won't be able to attend due the times of the sessions but for those who can make 1,2 or all 3 then we look forward to seeing you there! We still have the 6am work ons group going as well. The sessions will be as follows:

Monday's = 10:30am

Wednesday's = 10:30am

Thursday's = 9:30am

All 3 sessions will be at Resolute Athletic Complex which have locker rooms & showers available for use if you require them.

We will cover a variety of different areas from catch & pass to decision making on attack and Defence to tactical & technical skill sets, attacking framework for 7s(& 15s for those players who would like it) and many others.

Eammon Hogan

Eammon Hogan is one of the most respected coaches in the UK, he was the talent development coach for the Leicester Tigers a Premiership team, a weekly contibutor for over 11 years to Rugby Coaching Magazine, and was an assistnat coach on the 1st Professional Rugby team in Columbus, Ohio... The Aviators!

Ruan

Ruan Zorba Allerston is a professional rugby player from Durban, KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. He is a center and fly-half that has played in the Currie cup in SA and professionally in Portugal. His energy, tactical kicking, and game-breaking running ability make him a menace to opponents..

He is currently teacher and a rugby coach at Durban High School, a famous boys academy founded in 1866 (https://www.facebook.com/DurbanHighSchool).

PJ

PJ van Zyl is a retired professional rugby player from South Africa. PJ played for the Golden Lions U19 and the Leopards U21 squad, he also played Varsity Cup rugby with the NWU Pukke.

At the start of 2011, Van Zyl joined Wellington-based side Boland Cavaliers. He made his debut for the team during the 2011 Vodacom Cup competition,

He soon established himself as a regular starter for Boland in both the Vodacom Cup and Currie Cup competitions and reached 50 appearances (Caps in rugby).

He and his played professionally in France and Portugal before coming to the US and playing for Columbus Rugby. PJ and his family have moved back to South Africa where he is the Co-Owner of Grip It and Rip Crossfit Gym (https://www.facebook.com/gripandrip15)!

Joy Buraima, is the last video of our Spring 2022 graduates, alongside Paige and Katie, they were the backbone of this team! Much love and respect from the OWU team!

Originally from the Ivory Coast, after graduation Joy has become a Clinical Research Coordinator at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Go Joy!

Roland

Roland Suniula was born in New Zealand and got his start playing for North Harbour, a famous and storied club in Auckland. He played in the US for the Austin Elite in Major League Rugby (MLR).

He also played for the Seattle Seawolves in the MLR, the Ohio Aviators in PRO Rugby, and the Columbus Rugby Club (Scioto Valley RFC). He is the brother of Andrew and Shalom Suniula, who have also represented the United States Eagles rugby union (both sevens and XV's). Amazing that all three brothers represented the US!

Overseas, Roland played for FC Auch Gers for the 2012-13 Pro D2 season. After one season with team he joined CS Vienne where he made 18 appearances for the team during the 2013-14 season, both are professional teams in France.. In May 2014, Suniula signed a two-year deal with an option for a third with RC Chalon another Fédérale 1 side.

Hannes from SA

Hannes Huisamen is a professional rugby player from South Africa. He is currently under contract with the EPRU Elephants, where he plays alongside his brother Gerrit as locks for the team, Hannes is 6'6" and his brother is 6'5", so they make a formidable duo. He has played for Stellenbosch University Maties, the top side of the largest rugby club in the world, with fifty-three teams and more than 1300 registered rugby players!!

Alum Katie Peterson

Katie graduated last Spring and was one of the Captains of the team. She and two others, held the club together during the pandemic when the team wasn't allowed to play. She is now living in NYC and working for Centric Brands, a leading global apparel and accessories company,

This club owes a huge debt to Katie and the other Spring graduates who fought to keep the club going and helped with the transition of the coaching staff.

From the Columbus Women's Rugby Club

The Columbus Women's Rugby Club (the Squirrels) is a fixture in Midwest Rugby. Founded in 1991, but with rugby DNA coming from their previous club the Columbus Wolfpack, they have been putting bruises on teams for decades.

Our Assistant Coach Brittany Latham plays for the club and we hare happy to have her!

Finished the day 3-0! Scored 93 points to giving up 17.

Defeated Ohio University 29-5
Defeated Oberlin 37-12
And beat Earlham 27-0

What a day to be a Bishop!

OWU Women went 2-1 on the day, earning 9 points. Lost to Taylor University, defeated Tiffin and Ohio University.

Correction - the men lost 24-17 to Denison in game one, but came back strong with a 40-24 win in game 2. Huge shout out for Denison hosting us today.

The OWU Women's team remains in first place this Fall, but two more critical weeks to go!

At the end of Week 5 of the Fall competition, your Ohio Wesleyan Bishops still hold the #1 spot.

This past weekend, we played a fun tournament at Ohio University with a mixed side of OWU and Earlham College mixing in with us. Thank you, Justice, Lilly, Emolia, and Quinn for being Bishops for the day. We hope you had fun!

The OWU Men and Women are off this week for Midterms and Fall break. Our next game weekend is October 22nd.
