‘Relentless’ Northfield girls beat top-seeded Cherokee Trail to make Colorado 6A basketball title game The Nighthawks’ relentlessness gave them a frenetic 67-57 victory over the Cougars in the first Class 6A girls semifinal.

Ben Startzer — Head Football Coach, Northfield High School

Coach Ben Startzer is one of Colorado’s longest tenured active football coaches, with over 31 years of experience building championship programs from the ground up. A four-time Coach of the Year honoree, he has led teams to (or been part of) conference championships at every level — from high school to NCAA Division II — and is widely recognized for his ability to transform struggling programs into consistent winners.

At Northfield, Coach Startzer has built the Nighthawks into a 4A Metro League powerhouse, capturing back-to-back league championships in 2024 and 2025 and coaching the 2025 Colorado Gold Helmet winner. His program operates on the F.A.M.I.L.Y. framework — a character-first culture that develops young men as leaders on and off the field.

Beyond the sideline, Coach Startzer holds a Masters degree and is a nationally recognized speaker for Glazier and Playbook Football Coaches Clinics.
