Why Golf Expos Deliver Real Value for Golf Businesses

Winter can be a slow time for many golf businesses. Courses are quieter, golfers are thinking about the upcoming season, and colder weather limits how often people can get out and play. From my experience as the owner of the Colorado Golf Expo, that is exactly why golf expos remain valuable.

The people who attend a golf expo are not a random audience. They come because they play golf, want to play more, or are actively looking for new courses, equipment, lessons, golf trips, and other services. That is very different from placing a digital ad and hoping it reaches the right people.

At the Expo, businesses can spend an entire weekend talking directly with golfers. Attendees can ask questions, see products in person, compare their options, and learn more about the people behind a business. Those face-to-face conversations are difficult to duplicate through traditional advertising.

I have seen golf course vendors generate meaningful revenue at the Expo before their regular season is fully underway. They sell rounds, golf packages, memberships, lessons, and special offers while Colorado weather may still be limiting play. That early-season income can make a real difference.

Those winter sales can also continue producing results well into the golf season. When someone purchases a package at the Expo, they have already decided to visit that course when the weather improves. A good first experience can lead to additional rounds, referrals, group outings, or even a future membership.

Of course, sales during the weekend are only part of the opportunity. Many attendees are still gathering information and deciding where they want to spend their golf dollars. Exhibitors can collect contact information, schedule appointments, reconnect with former customers, and introduce their businesses to golfers who may never have heard of them before.

I always encourage exhibitors to give people a clear reason to stop at their booth. Simply standing behind a table with a stack of brochures is not much of a strategy. A show-only offer, contest, demonstration, giveaway, or useful piece of information can start a conversation. Following up after the show is just as important. If someone shares their email address, they should hear from the business within a few days, not several weeks later.
Another benefit is the direct feedback exhibitors receive. Over one weekend, they can learn what golfers are excited about, what frustrates them, and where they plan to spend money during the coming season. That kind of information is difficult to get from advertising reports or website analytics.

I do not view a golf expo as simply a three-day sales event. It is an opportunity for golf businesses to become more visible during a quiet part of the year, generate early revenue, meet customers face-to-face, and begin relationships that can last throughout the season and beyond. In my experience, that combination is difficult to match with advertising alone.

We need to preemptively ban robots from golf scrambles.

A team of four robots just fired an 18 while every human team struggled to break 60. Apparently, robots don’t miss fairways, three-putt, lose golf balls, question their club selection, or fall apart after the beverage cart arrives.

Scrambles already have enough problems.

No robots. No artificial intelligence. No laser-guided putters.

This is one part of golf where human error must be protected. 🤖⛳ LOL
