In 1947, Al Finer returned to Denver after completing his military service during World War II in the Marine Corps. Al decided that he wanted to continue to be involved with military goods as he was during the war. With $500, Al opened his first surplus store. While the products sold and the locations of the stores have changed over the years, Al's overall philosophy has always remained the same.
