Good advice on docking!
Coming alongside – essential sailing skills for shorthanded crews - Practical Boat Owner
How many people are on board when you go sailing? A good guess is that you’re only two, and often the extra crew is your spouse. As people have less time on their hands, and schedules are tight, the average crew size has decreased over the years. But with furling sails, electrical winches, bow thr...

Next up on the blog...Patmos! Probably the most historic island we landed on during our July Greek sailing trip. First impression wasn't so great, but that quickly changed. Spend more than one day if you can, there is so much to see and do!
The Second Impression of Patmos
Patmos doesn’t necessarily put its best foot forward. That’s ok. Stick around, you’ll find everything you came for and more.

Our new blog showcases yet another incredible spot we visited while sailing in the Greek Dodecanese islands in July. Pandeli has it all! A 1000-year-old castle, a series of stunning windmills that you walk right by on the way up to the castle, seaside cafes, gorgeous vistas, and mooring balls! There is even a person who zooms out when they see your boat approaching to point you to the correct mooring ball and to help with the process. What could be better?
Sailing to Perfect Pandeli Greece
Pandeli offers it all: Castles, windmills, stunning white and blue houses, seaside cafes, clear blue water, and (my favorite) mooring buoys with a helper!

We booked this trip so fast I didn't even know where Kos Greece was. So glad we ended up there! We don't necessarily pick sailing locations because of the base marina, but it sure is nice when you find one that offers so much - proximity to beaches, swimming and the old town of Kos, terrific amenities, and so much more. Our current blog post outlines our top 10 favorite things about launching from Kos, Greece. It isn't the most well-known sailing destination, but it is definitely one that should be on your list. The islands you'll visit are what make this trip special, the excellent marina is just the cherry on top!
10 reasons you should sail from the Kos Marina
Here are ten reasons why Kos Marina is a great place to bookend your incredible sailing trip in the Dodecanese.

Vathis on Kalymnos Island was the first stop on our Greece sailing trip in the Dodecanese. The small fishing village is so charming that it is one of the main destinations for day boats with tourists traveling from Kos. The entire island is known for its courageous sponge divers and its world-class rock-climbing. I'll remember it as the first place we used an anchor for Mediterranean Mooring. More than that, though, I'll remember it for the group of young men diving from the cliff just in front of us. Some boldly jumping, some eventually doing so, and one - the bravest of all - turning back. Our newest blog post highlights all of the bravery we found in Vathis, a place we will certainly return to with friends to share just another spot on our beautiful planet that is best reached by sailboat.
Vathis Greece: home of the brave
Sponge diving, rock climbing, and an inaugural mooring with an anchor. Brave? Sure. But the young man who stood up for himself? The bravest of them all.

FINALLY!! After 18 months of booking trips then canceling trips then booking trips then canceling trips (you get the idea), we went sailing. To Greece no less! It was hands down my favorite sailing trip yet. We'll write more about that later, but for now, anyone who plans to travel from the USA to Greece (or anywhere else for that matter) needs to pay close attention to the Covid travel guidelines. Our first blog post in a long, long time outlines what you'll need to know and do to ensure stress free travel if you head to the gorgeous Greek islands.
USA to Greece Covid Travel Guidelines
Navigating Covid guidelines for travel from the USA to Greece and back is easy if you know the rules. As of July 2021, here’s what you need to know!

Proper preparation prevents poor performance. And for that reason, the answer is no. No, it is not too soon to begin planning for Father's Day if you want to surprise a special dad with the gift of sailing! Our new blog post at escapeundersail.com maps out how to make that happen.
