Black Ice Women's Rugby Club was formed in the summer of 1991 by a dedicated few: Nealette Thomas, J.J. Graham, Kim Schroeder, and Dawn Comstock. Looking to expand rugby in Colorado, their goals were to provide more competition to the Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union and to promote a positive athletic experience for women of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, and commitment levels. They sought to emphasize the fun and excitement of rugby. Over 20 years later, their vision is still going strong. New players welcome, no experience necessary. We welcome all players at all playing levels and abilities. This weekend we celebrated 35 years of Black Ice Rugby

We celebrated with D1 & D2 players, alumni of all ages, and (hopefully) some future Black Ice ruggers ✨

Seasons have their ups and downs, players move on to their next life adventures, coaches come and go - but at the heart of it all is family.

Teams do not exist for 35 years without the bonds that we have forged on and off the field, and these are not fair weather bonds. They are built on how we show up in the winning seasons, as well as the more challenging ones. They are built on how we support our teammates in play, as well as in life.

We are a diverse group of ruggers who have chosen this family again and again for 35 years.

Our club motto comes from the shirt one of our alum used to wear to practice, it has held on all these years because it holds true for Black Ice Rugby:

Together, WE ARE MIGHTY!
