What makes us different?!
My military background shaped the way I lead and grow my Jiu Jitsu gym through discipline, daily growth, and values-based leadership.
In the Army, I learned that progress isn’t an accident—you earn it through consistency and hard work. That’s why at Sh**un I focus on growth every day: improving my coaching, tightening the curriculum, sharpening the business, and helping every student leave better than they came in.
I operate the academy like a mission: set the standard, execute, review, and adjust fast.
I lead Shōgun Jiu Jitsu using the Army leadership values LDRSHIP:
* Loyalty: I’m loyal to my students and the culture we’re building—this isn’t transactional for me, it’s a commitment.
* Duty: I take my responsibility seriously—showing up prepared, being present to each of my students, and doing what’s right for my students even when it’s hard.
* Respect: A lot of people walk in nervous, out of shape, or unsure of themselves. Respect means meeting them where they are and building them up. Giving them respect immediately while earning mine through example and consistency.
* Selfless Service: I’m here to serve—my job is to help people grow, educate, gain confidence, and be there for my students, not just run classes.
* Honor: I represent my lineage, my professor, my academy, and my word. I want people to feel proud to train here.
* Integrity: I do what I say I’m going to do—on the mats and in the business. I live with these values on and off the mat. I do what’s right even when no one is watching.
* Personal Courage: It takes courage to start something new—especially stepping onto the mats for the first time. I push people to face that fear! I live it too as a business owner taking risks and building something from scratch is no easy task. Standing up for what’s right takes courage!!!
Bottom line, the military gave me the structure and the values to lead with standards, grow daily, and build a team-first and a culture where people become stronger on and off the mats.
This is a little insight into Sh**un Jiu Jitsu !

Shōgun Jiu Jitsu stands firmly against sexual abuse, harassment, and grooming in martial arts—at any rank, in any affiliation, in any “circle.”
Too many women and young girls have been harmed by people in positions of trust. And it’s not only the obvious cases—even when it’s “consenting adults,” a gym owner or coach dating students can still be a power imbalance that looks and functions like grooming. That should be frowned upon, not normalized.
We have to stand up to this behavior whether it comes from someone in a “high place” or a “low place.” A black belt is not above accountability.
At Shōgun, we believe a gym should be run with the same seriousness as a professional workplace: clear boundaries, real accountability, and zero tolerance for sexual relationships between staff/instructors and students. Period.
If you’re training somewhere that makes you feel unsafe—or you believe grooming, harassment, or inappropriate relationships are happening—know this: you have options.
At Shōgun Jiu Jitsu, you are safe. You can train for self-defense, competition, or as a hobby in a respectful environment where you’re protected and taken seriously.
If you need a place to start over, message us. We’ve got you.

Working with this group of teens and young men is a blessing! Our goal at Shōgun is to reach out to as many youth as possible. We want to inspire, motivate, and empower the next generation through jiu-jitsu.
This week we focused on anti-bullying awareness and self-defense techniques that build real confidence. When young people learn they can control a situation through technique and discipline, they carry that strength into every area of their lives.
Self-defense isn’t just about the physical—it’s about teaching kids they have the power to protect themselves and stand up for what’s right. That’s the Shōgun way.
If you know a young person who could benefit from our youth program, reach out. We’re building warriors with character. 🥋
