Afro-Tantra is a queer and black owned yoga company dedicated to the experience of QTBIPOC communities throughout the Denver area.

As a queer and black owned organization, Afro-Tantra's goal is to help the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people of Denver through healing yoga classes and community based offerings. We help foster chakra exploration, inversion practice, and a more intimate relationship with the body as it relates to the chakra system.

If you thought a "vortex" was just a dramatic theme night at the club, honey, your subtle body has some news. 🌀✨

Welcome to the Chakras & Subtle Body series! A chakra literally translates from Sanskrit as a "spinning disk," "wheel," or "vortex." These are invisible wheels of universal energy within us that constantly draw in life force (prana). By spinning on their axes, they hold and distribute this energy to maintain your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Time to keep your wheels spinning beautifully and stop wasting your precious energy.

Not you thinking the "Mother Divine" was just a title for your favorite ballroom legend. 💅✨

Let's talk about evolution, honey. Long before we got the ten fierce Wisdom Goddesses (the Das Mahavidyas), the spiritual realm was worshiping the original power trio: the Tridevi (Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati). But between the 7th and 13th centuries, things expanded into the Navadurga, and finally blossomed into these ten absolute icons. According to the Todalatantra, these ten fierce and gentle Ta***ic forms uniquely mirror the 10 avatars of Vishnu. They aren't here to do a light drag show; they are here to offer you a direct gateway to spiritual liberation.

No, girly pop, Ta**ra isn't a sex-position marathon. Let's unpack the literal Sanskrit before you get too excited. 👀🧘🏾‍♂️

Let’s clear the air: 'Ta**ra' is built on two powerful Sanskrit roots: 'Tan' (to expand, stretch, or spread) and 'Tra' (an instrument or mechanism).

Put them together and you get: an instrument for expanding your consciousness. It is a highly practical, somatic technology that uses your physical body, senses, and emotions to transcend limitations—not to mindlessly indulge, but to elevate.

We are here to stretch your awareness, not just your hamstrings.

New Class Alert!

Join new teaching artists Afro-Ta**ra in this new class offering at the academy.Nalo is a yoga practitioner with over 400 hours of experience in the field, as we stimulate, settle, and regulate our chakra system.

About his class:
This root chakra class will help you cultivate an awareness of your body's roots and connection to nature. The muladhara is the first chakra, which allows you to feel grounded and anchored to Mother Earth, which can foster a sense of stabilization. When it's deficient, you may feel a disconnection from the world, a lack of boundaries, and general anxiety. Through pranayama (breathwork) and asana (yogic postures), this class aims to further enhance your connection to nature, Mother Earth, and feel stabilized in your body in the present moment.

We're excited to offer this amazing class to with Nalo. Stay tuned for more news dropping this week about Nalo and what else he's bringing to the academy to share with the Denver Dance community. We're excited!
