Mount Rainier Pool Mount Rainier Pool is an indoor facility. We are just south of the Mount Rainier High School campus. Welcome to the Mount Rainier Pool page.

Mount Rainier Pool is an indoor facility governed by the Des Moines Pool Metropolitan District. Some of the many programs we offer include Swim Lessons, Lap Swims, Water Exercise classes, as well as Public and Family Swims. We offer swimming lessons throughout the year for children and adults of all ages. Lap swims occur several times during the day for people with varying schedules and we have Public or Family swims at least once every day. Water Exercise classes are available mornings in deep and shallow water with an arthritic class in the afternoon and all are open to both adults and seniors. Mount Rainier Pool is joining the Halloween fun at the Des Moines Trick or Treat Path! Stop by our booth, grab some candy, meet our team, and say hello to our giant Vampire Duck! 🧛🦆

Have kids at home during the day?

Whether you homeschool, have a preschooler, or simply have a flexible weekday schedule, Family Swim at Mount Rainier Pool is a great way to get out of the house, get moving, and spend time together.

🌧️ When the weather outside gets cold and rainy, come inside and swim!

DAYTIME FAMILY SWIM
🕛 Noon–1:00 PM
📅 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Swimming is a great daytime activity for kids and families:

💦 Get moving – A fun way for kids to be physically active
🏊 Build water confidence – More time in the water helps kids become comfortable around swimming
📵 Take a screen break – Trade tablets and TVs for active play
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Spend time together – Make swimming part of your family’s weekly routine

🤿 POOL UPDATE: REDUCED LAP LANES

Mount Rainier Pool will remain OPEN, but lap swimmers will have 4 of 6 lanes available during the following times:

📅 Monday, October 26 | 7am–12pm
📅 Wednesday, October 28 | 7am–12pm

Two lanes will be reserved for a Seattle Dive Tours scuba class.

These rentals help Mount Rainier Pool provide space for water safety and access training while keeping most of the pool available for our regular swimmers.

🏆 Mount Rainier Pool District Recognized for Risk Management & Community Safety!

We’re proud to share that the Des Moines Pool Metropolitan Park District has received the Risk Management Achievement Award from the Association of Washington Cities Risk Management Service Agency (AWC RMSA).

The District was recognized at the RMSA Annual Meeting in Chelan for our commitment to proactive risk management, improving community safety, reducing potential risks, and helping control insurance costs.

For us, risk management is about much more than insurance or reducing claims. It means creating a safer environment for our employees and swimmers, protecting public resources, maintaining our facility responsibly, and helping ensure Mount Rainier Pool can continue serving our community.

As a public agency, we take seriously our responsibility to protect the resources entrusted to us. Preventing accidents and reducing losses also benefits the larger RMSA insurance pool, helping keep coverage sustainable and affordable for local governments throughout Washington.

AWC RMSA provides property and liability protection to 116 Washington cities, towns, and special purpose districts, while working with its members to prevent losses, strengthen resiliency, and protect essential community services.

We appreciate this recognition and, most importantly, the work our staff does every day to make Mount Rainier Pool a safe and welcoming place for our community.

Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon at the pool! Join us for our annual Spooky Swim featuring swimming, Halloween games, music, treats, prizes and plenty of fun in the water!

💦 WHAT’S HAPPENING?

🕐 1:00 PM – Spooky Swim Begins + Deep-End Swim Tests
👻 1:15 PM – Ghost Dive
💀 1:35 PM – Skeleton Slide on the Water Walk
🍎 1:50 PM – Apple Bob Game in the Deep End
🎃 2:10 PM – Pumpkin Relay
🎟️ 2:45 PM – 3-Month Family Pass Raffle Winner Announced!

🍬 ALL AFTERNOON:
• Candy Corn Ring Toss
• Duck Scavenger Hunt
• Open Swim
• Diving Board

• Music, treats and more!

🎟️ NO PRE-REGISTRATION THIS YEAR!

Admission is first-come, first-served. Event check-in begins at 12:45 PM, and participants will receive a ticket for entry.

🚗 PARKING: Overflow parking is available at Mount Rainier High School, next to the pool. Please be courteous to our neighbors and do not park in front of residences.

⚠️ LAP & FAMILY SWIMMERS: The pool will close at 12:30 PM on Saturday, October 24 so our staff can prepare for Spooky Swim.

Four hours of Sunday lap swimming—whether you’re training, exercising, or just getting back into the water.
💧 Water Walking | 11:00 AM–1:00 PM
You don’t have to swim laps to get a great workout. Enjoy a lower-impact way to move, exercise, and spend time in the water.
