RED SNAPPERS OPENING October 15th or Federally-permitted vessels!!! NMFS has given us extra days since we did not over-fish our quota of Red Snappers! So starting October 15 we can keep Red Snappers in Federal waters! Book now to reserve a place at the Snapper dinner table!
Andrew Worrell brought his lovely daughters Arika and Nia out on a beautiful day in the Gulf of Mexico for some deep sea fishing and the sea creatures cooperated again! We started off catching cigar minnows and Speedos (the bait!) on the bait banks and then headed off to the trolling grounds. The King Mackerel bite was VERY good and we had 4 nice Kings out of 5 bites rather quickly. Then we headed to deeper water for som bottom fishing and my crew captured some very nice Vermilion and White Snappers. Here are some images of our fine catch and my star anglers. Thanks again, Andrew, Nia and Arika!!! Hope to see you again!
James, Emily and young Emery ventured out into the gulf for a morning of bottom fishing and met with great success! We caught a rare limit of Triggerfish, Vermilion Snappers and White Snappers. Thank you again, Team Ray!
The Spanish Mackerel have showed up with a vengeance! The weather has been quite rough for over a week and a half, but the Spanish Mackerel arrived and they are biting the back of the boat off! Susan and her kids (Team Nidam) came out and we limited out on Spanish Mackerel and the bite was as good as I've ever seen. We had several triple hook-ups and lots of doubles too! Susan told me on of the boys was an avid angler but the other two were not so much, but they ALL were great anglers and that includes mom! Here are a few pics from their trip, thanks again, Susan!
Triggerfish are open! We are now targeting Grey Triggerfish as well as Vermilion and White Snappers while bottom fishing. Starting to book up for spring break so call now to make a reservation! Spanish will be showing up this month when the southeasterly winds begin to warm the Gulf waters as well. Here is a pic from last March, happy anglers no doubt!
Team Thompson fished today and succeeded in capturing a few nice dinners from the gorgeous Gulf of Mexico. The trolling bite was a bit slow, but we also went bottom fishing and between the two captured King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Vermilion Snappers and White Snappers! Here is Madison, Clay, Patrick, Jim and Rebecca. Hope I spelled everyone's name correctly! Thanks again, guys and gals! 👍
Team Tapia went fishing today and braved the rough (in the beginning) seas and captured some great dinner! Thanks to Stephanie, my star angler, we caught a good mess of fish! She actually caught most of the fish on a boat full of guys, she even got the big grouper!! Thanks all, and here are some pics!
Terri and her son Chris, along with her sister Tina and her son Caden ventured out on not so calm seas but were very successful in capturing dinner! Here are some pics of them and a pic of a 18” Vermilion Snapper, a fine one indeed! Thanks, Terri!
Palmer Schmitz brought his friends out fishing and they became the fish-slayers de Jour on the Double Time! We caught a limit of nice Red Snappers and a Red Grouper to boot! Thanks Palmer, hope you enjoy the fish!
Stephen Sparks and his crew of Ashley, Teddy and Randy ventured out on the Double Time and captured some big Red Snappers as well as other fine-eating fish! Here are some images from their adventure.
Stephen Sparks and his wife Ashley along with Randy and Teddy came out on a six hour charter today and the weather and the bite was great! A cool north wind kept the temps down and the seas light. We ventured about 18 miles out and found some whopper fish, most of which are still there, some with our hooks still in their mouths! Our biggest Red Snapper was about 15 pounds and we also caught a Red Grouper. Here are my anglers and some of their fish. Thanks again, Stephen and Ashley!
Stanley Crawford and his gang of young anglers braved the somewhat choppy Gulf of Mexico today and returned with a big mess of great eating fish! John got top honors for the biggest Red Snapper and we sure lost our share of some big Snappers or groupers! We also landed a nice shark, probably a bull, released right at the boat. Here are some pics of my happy anglers! Thanks again, Stan!

Will Craine brought his crew out on a very rough day (but doable) and we met with success capturing some tasty Red Snapper for dinner! Thanks for sticking with it as long as we did, Will!

Josh Bruce brought his family out for a catch and release trip so the kids could have some saltwater fun! We did keep a few fish which I gave to my neighbor, but we caught a lot more than these pics show. Kate and Jagger were really into the fishing, and even Christy reeled in some as well. We started of trolling for Spanish Mackerel and we caught them pretty quick. We then headed out into the Gulf of Mexico for some reef fishing. The Ruby Lips and small Triggerfish were everywhere in close, but we found a few Mingo Snappers and kept a couple to add to the Spanish. Thank you again, Josh and please tell your wife and kids thank you as well! Hope to see you again!

Accident on Destin Bridge eastbound. About 15 cars in front of me. So far there are now 3 sheriff’s cars, 1 ambulance, 2 large fire engines. So far. Clear, sunny, dry roads. Somebody watching the pass or Crap Island instead of traffic ahead.

Danny Blalock brought his (very enthusiastic!) family out to ply the waters of the Gulf of Mexico today. The seas weren’t calm but we were able to make our way out farther than I have been able to in many days. Fishing started kind of slow, catching throwback Triggerfish and we worked our way out until I got where I thought there should be some nice fish and we caught a mess to eat!Hayden (sorry about spelling) was carrying the team for a while but Cooper, Ava, Danny and Laura caught up and we caught nice Vermilion Snappers and a keeper Triggerfish for the box. Thanks again Danny for sharing your family with me and choosing Double Time!

Jim Hafner brought his two boys Gabe and Chase and his dad in law Bill out for some saltwater fun. Started out great catching nice Spanish Mackerel inshore and after we boxed 3 dozen we headed out into the (rough) Gulf of Mexico. It was about 3’ off the bar, but 4-5 miles out was about 4-4 1/2’. My guys all hung in there and we made it about 7 miles out. Steep 5’ seas made it very difficult to feel a mingo snapper bite, we caught Triggerfish and some grunts, so headed back to shore. I am so proud of my crew, most anglers would have been sick or scared! Came back into calm waters and sacked up another 19 Spanish for a good day of fishing! Thanks again Jim! Hope you enjoy the fresh fish!

Dr. Nate Fisher brought his crew out on an eight hour charter aboard the Double Time on Monday and we captured some fine sea monsters! The Red Snappers bit kinda slow, but we got our limit. I had to go exploring some due to other boats on places I had planned to fish and it ended up great! We captured a 50 lb Cobia (and released the two smaller ones) and also an 18 lb Red Grouper! Jim wrangled the grouper in himself! All of us took turns on a huge shark that we couldn’t budge off the bottom. Here are some images from our great adventure!

RED SNAPPERS ARE OPEN AND BITING!!! Red snappers opened in federal waters for federally-permitted boats like the Double Time! Dusti and Jennifer went out on Monday, opening day for the Snappers and were victorious in their quest for good dinner fare. They caught their limit of Red Snapper along with an Almaco Jack and two nice Scamp Groupers! We released quite a few other fish like small Amberjack and Triggerfish and an undersized Gag Grouper. Way to go, gals! Hope you come fish with me again! Some pics of happy anglers!😀

Gov. Ron DeSantis opened short-term rentals in the panhandle! Weather is looking good for Memorial Day Weekend! We are bottom fishing and trolling, come catch ‘em up!

iPhone won’t let me add video and pics at same time (or FB won’t) so here is John doing battle! And winning!

Photos from Double Time Charters's post 05/19/2020

John, his wife Allison, and Taylor and his wife Paige came out fishing on the Double Time with the goal of “catching a big fish” and were very successful! The seas were a little rough but I had to head straight into them in order to go where I thought we may find some hungry Amberjacks and that made the ride uncomfortable due to the heading, but it paid off! The Jacks were hungry and we caught quite a few, maybe ten, and one was a keeper over 34” so that was an added bonus! Here are a few images of my anglers with some of their catch, and a video of John whoopin up on a “Reef Donkey”! Thanks guys and gals, hope to see you again!

An angler messaged me saying that Google Maps showed Double Time Charters as "permanently closed", which is NOT TRUE!!! We are open and have been open all spring, the governor's order of closing exempted us as an essential business, but short-term rentals are still closed. There are quite a few visitors in town, and lots of condo owners taking advantage of the less crowded streets and recreational areas. Fishing has been pretty good, we are trolling and bottom fishing as well. It has been very rough the last few days, but we are fishing tomorrow and will post an update after. White Snappers and Vermilion Snappers and Spanish and Kings are available on the shorter trips such as tomorrow's, See you then!

Robert Vest, his son Anderson and Friend Andy and his son ventured out on a foggy morning on the Double Time and fished for a variety of species with good success! Due to the fog, we stayed in the harbor and caught a nice mess of Spanish Mackerel. When the fog lifted some we went out into the gulf for some nearshore bottom fishing and caught a variety of critters, some good to keep and eat, others we released. Here are my happy anglers with some of their catch. Thanks again Robert and Andy!

Eric Miller came out with Mark and Jake on the Double Time for their first saltwater fishing experience and did very well, capturing some fine eating fish for dinner! Even though these bass fishermen had never used circle hooks before, they never once je**ed or set the hook so they excelled at bottom fishing in the gulf! Here are a few pics of their trip with some of the nice fish they captured. Thanks again, Eric and crew!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while, busy with all of the non-fishing activities like Holidays and a new puppy. First: Thanksgiving Oysters, (with homegrown lemons), last dozen done on the grill with butter and Parmesan cheese- they didn't last long! Very last image is my HUGE Pearl!!!😁

Sorry we have been "Offline" for a while! We went to beautiful East Tennessee (an annual trip to ride our dirt bikes) and took the RV to camp at Frozen Head State Park. Weather was great, some cold nights, and the fall leaves were perfect! Here are some images of our time in the mountains. My wingman, Capt. Doug Richards and his wife Kay joined me and my wife, Shannon for the adventure. Wish we could have stayed longer! Back to fishing this next week, Flounders are here!!!

Tim Henderson flew in from Texas to fish again with us and brought his wife Linda and another couple Mark and Leah. The weather was great (but hot, par for August!) and the fish bit well. As usual, the ladies out-fished the men! The first bait in the water produced a nice Blackfin Tuna, of course Linda landed that one! We also caught several King Mackerels, the largest caught by Leah! here are some photos of the happy anglers, thanks again, Tim and everyone!

Angling aficionado Jim Ross returned once again to fish with me and the day was a great adventure! We caught some Lane Snappers and then some Vermilion Snappers and a few White Snappers as well. I decided to try a small spot I had that showed promise earlier in the year when I saw some Amberjack on the screen of the fathometer. We dropped one bait, got one bite, and landed a 28+ pound Greater Amberjack! Nice one for the grill! We turned Double Time towards Destin and cruised back with our bounty from the sea. Here is Jim with the largest member of his catch, showin' off! Thanks again, Jim!

Danny Cotron went fishing with Double Time Charters yesterday and we had a great day on the very calm Gulf of Mexico. Along were Danny's wife Amanda and another couple Daniel and Rachael. None of them had been to Destin before or ever fished in saltwater, but they did great! Of course, as usual, Girl Power prevailed again and Amanda caught the largest fish. We captured a lot of fish, including Red Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, and a few Vermilion Snappers for dinner. We caught and released some groupers, Triggerfish and Ruby Lips as well, and the seas were very calm. Here are a couple of images from our adventure with the Virginia/Tennessee gang bragging with some of their catch!

Chris Petty returned to fish and brought his lovely wife Amanda and her sister Breanna and their dad, Bruce. We headed out south of Destin around 16 miles and were able to capture some really nice Red Snappers, along with a few Vemilion and White Snappers as well. Of course, Girl Power prevailed and Breanna caught the largest Red Snapper, so she has bragging rights for a while! We also released several Groupers which were a bit too small, a Scamp, many other Red Snappers and a big Triggerfish Chris caught. Here is the crew Showin' off! Thanks again, everyone!

Allen Borgerding returned with his family to try and capture a delicious dinner again and we were very successful, again! here are some images of the fam and big Max!

Terry and his son Lance came to fish today, and I almost cancelled due to the big swells and rough seas left over from Tropical Storm Barry, but... I decided to load them up and go look at the seas for myself. The seas were running 3-4 foot with several fives in there, but the spacing (period) was enough so I could run a decent speed mostly in the trough, so we went! The sharks were relentless today and the Triggerfish ate tons of our bait, but we ended up with some nice Red Snappers for the grill. Here is Terry and Lance showin' off! Thanks again, guys, hope to see you again!

Roger Vitter from New Orleans came out fishing (before the storm Barry) and he and his boys brought lots of great luck again! Here are a couple photos with the fam and some of their catch! Roger, I'll be checking on you in another day to see if you were able to stay high and dry, difficult in New Orleans, for sure. Be safe, friend.

Adam Adams brought his boys Waylon and Garrett out for a fishing excursion and we had great success with the Red Snappers! Here is the crew with a portion of our catch with smiles on their faces! Thanks again, Adam!!!

Marty Houdeshell and his family ventured out for a couple of trips on the Double Time, the first one a short Shark trip close by. We didn't find any sharks biting, but did manage to catch a couple of King Mackerels for the grill! However, the next day we caught a lot of fish, 8 Red Snappers, 2 Almaco Jacks and a huge Barracuda! The first place we fished we lost a large Snapper to SOMETHING, then we lost a nice grouper, then we lost a Cobia, getting only the front half to the boat. A large Barracuda slid out from under the boat so we fed him more of the Cobia, which he ate, but didn't get hooked. So we ran the head down a few feet more and he eased out from underneath the boat and I free-gaffed his but! That monster won't eat any more of our Groupers now! He was 57 inches overall and weighed 39 pounds. The picture of the 2 large peices of fish on the red concrete dock are the middle and back sections of the Cobia he ate that were in his stomach! An exciting trip, for sure. Thanks again, Marty, Wyatt and Wayne! Tell Mattie I said hi!

Greg Wims brought his crew of Dale, Dale and Dion out to fish with me and we (they) crushed 'em! Here is a shot of the happy anglers and also an image of the catch on the deck of the Double Time before I iced them. Thanks again, Greg!

Brent Nienaber returned with Todd, Tyler and Nick to do battle on the big pond with some sea monsters. It was Tyler's day to be sure, as he landed the biggest Red Snapper and also got to use some light tackle on a nice Redfish as well. Here are some images from their adventure. Thanks again, guys!

Photos from Double Time Charters's post 06/15/2019

Lucas Barkley and his crew weren't able to get out the first day he booked due to very rough weather, but they made up for it when the weather did clear. Clay, Albin and Evan ventured out with Lucas but it was the Clay show all day. Clay captured groupers and the largest Red Snapper, a sow that tipped the digital scale at 16 lbs! We lost a bunch of good fish as well, but ended with a great catch. Thanks again, Lucas! Just to let you all know the size of that Snapper, Clay is 6'5" tall!!!
