Firm courts, clean lines, and hung nets. The courts are officially open for the 2023 season!

It may have felt like winter today, but we were able to get a jump on summer. The courts have been installed, BUT THEY ARE NOT PLAYABLE! They will need to be rolled multiple times daily to ensure the smooth, firm surface needed for our high-caliber play of tennis. We are aiming for a May 1st opening.

2022 Presidents Party. Tonight we celebrate outgoing President Rosemary Gugino, as well as all of our past Presidents.

Our traditional Opening Day Party on May 1st was back in full fashion after a two year hiatus. Thanks to our “guest bartenders” Kim and Caitlin, great drinks were enjoyed while catching-up with friends after a long off-season.

How It Started vs How It’s Going (are the kids these days still doing these? 🤷🏼‍♂️) We are happy to have gotten the courts installed today! They still require extensive rolling and grooming before they are playable. We are aiming for May 1st!

Last night was MAD!!! Many thanks to our incredible hosts, Carl and Muffy, and all those who helped turn our clubhouse into Wonderland!

Thank you all for your patience these last couple weeks. The cool temps and off-and-on rain made it difficult for the courts to firm-up for play. The nets are now up and the courts are playable!

Welp, the hard part for the Courts Committee is done. This year’s install was the most difficult in memory. Did you know there is a national shortage of clay court lines? Neither did we until last week. The courts are NOT playable as they require extensive grooming over the next couple weeks. Weather permitting, we should be able to play May 2nd. Stay tuned for updates.

Moving in the right direction. The courts were installed today. As with every year, they’ll need at least a week of rolling and watering before they are ready for play. But rest assured, there is tennis in the near future. Stay tuned for the official opening announcement!!!

November 4th is day! This is an online event, so feel free to comment your questions about how we care for paintings, objects, and paper in the DIA’s collection. Our conservators will be happy to answer them here!

Paper Conservators specialize in the preservation and treatment of works on paper. At the DIA, that includes drawings, prints, books, photographs, and more! Pictured is Christopher Foster, Paper Conservator, treating Diego Rivera’s “Woman Holding Fruit,” which is a cartoon for the “Detroit Industry” murals.
