The Detroit Internet Club was founded to connect internet makers, doers, coders, users, and needers within and around Detroit and [drum roll...] THE WORLD.

To what end? No sweet clue at the moment! You've heard of the Detroit Athletic Club. You've heard of the Detroit Yacht Club. Now introducing the Detroit Internet Club. What exactly does DIC do? Dunno yet. Step 1, like so many great things, is to get together and drink some beer. People from Detroit and all over the place are encouraged to join.

Ideas for Detroit's ITS Department 02/01/2012

check this out, a huge detroit internet question. vince mazzola has been compiling the city of detroit's 2012 information technology (IT) budget. any guesses on the budget? ... ... ... it looks to be around $118 million, or, converted to english, a whole heck of a lot. i'm no expert on what it takes to keep an entire city in software (not yet, anyways, i think a lot of us would like to be :-)) but we've been kicking some ideas back and forth and vince just posted this webpage: http://newdetroitstyle.com detailing the budget items and suggesting some cost saving measures as well as some fresh ideas for a more user-friendly and interactive city, including the sort of mapping and crowdfunding/sourcing things loveland's been working on. does anyone have thoughts on this? ideas for what detroit can do to improve it's user-friendliness? this very much ties in with the code for america theme, and it seems like surely there must be a whole lotta room for doing things more cheaply, effectively, and intelligently future-forward. - jerry
