Beauty of Devils Lake that I appreciate during strong winds is the number of bays and the number of ramps where a person can look for fish somewhat out of the wind. You don’t necessarily get to fish where you would like to but there is a fun challenge of going to a ramp solely because of the wind and figuring something out within a half mile of the boat ramp. What is shocking is that most days… you can often put together something not far from any boat ramp on the lake. Might not always be big fish but there is usually something. From the west end of the lake to the east end of the lake, there are walleyes scattered through out the lake. Been some crazy winds at times this fall.

Definitely the time of year where a person really should have at least one rod rigged up with a glide bait. Lots of options out there now. I would rate my top three as the Pitching Puppet from Northland, the classic Jigging Rap and the Johnnie Darter for a heavier bait with rattles. What I love about the Pitching Puppet is that it seems to shine with a softer cadence which reduces fatigue. Kind of discovered that by accident when testing some of the early prototypes. Softer bobs or twitching it away from fish instead of the harder snaps. I attribute that difference to the larger tail fin. I find this lure is extremely easy to work especially for anglers new to glide baits.
