You want your child to find an activity they’re excited to go back to.

That’s why this smile matters to me.

At Force, our three S’s are Smile, Skill, Sweat. I want kids moving, learning jiu-jitsu, and enjoying the people they train with. Having fun belongs in that picture.

If you’ve been looking for something your child could enjoy here in Douglas, come meet us and let them experience a class.

Parents, try this on the ride home from class:

“What was tricky today, and what did you try?”

Give them time to tell you about it.

Jiu-jitsu gives kids plenty of problems to work through. Their first idea might not work, and that’s where some guidance and another attempt matter.

As a coach, I want to help them notice what’s happening, make a choice, and learn from it. Giving them room to do some of that thinking is part of the lesson.

Their answer might tell you something about how they’re learning.

Save this conversation starter for your next pickup.

Parents, if listening and following directions are things you’re working on with your child, this part of class matters.

Watch the demonstration. Listen for the instruction. Try it with a partner.

We give kids a clear next step and help them return to it when they get distracted. Following an instruction independently, waiting their turn, and knowing when to ask for help are all things we can practice on the mats.

Your child can start while they’re still working on those skills.

Parents, the example older students set matters.

When an older teammate takes time to help a younger student, both have something to learn. One gets support with something new. The other gets a chance to practice patience, communication, and responsibility.

That’s the kind of leadership I want to encourage at Force, listening, helping, and remembering what it felt like to be the one who needed a little guidance.

As our kids develop their skills, I want them to recognize the difference they can make for somebody else.

The people you train with can become a big reason you keep showing up.

There’s room in a good training session for hard work, questions, and a laugh while you catch your breath. Those moments matter to me. I want you to look forward to walking through our door.

If your week has become work, home, repeat, come learn something new with us here in Douglas. Meet the team, get on the mats, and see how you like jiu-jitsu.

Getting stuck in the same position can make you feel like you’re going backward.

Before you judge your whole class by a frustrating round, pick one moment to learn from. Ask your coach where things started going wrong. Work through the adjustment with your partner, then give yourself time to practice it.

You don’t have to figure out your entire game in one evening. Leave with a question answered and something specific to work on next time.

That’s progress you can build on.

Save this for the next time you leave the mats frustrated.

To the woman who’s bored with going through the motions at the gym, give yourself something new to learn.

Jiu-jitsu keeps you involved. Somebody is moving, you’re adjusting, and you have to figure out what comes next.

In a moment like this, balance and positioning matter. A small adjustment can change how the whole position feels. Learning to recognize that is satisfying and it gives you something to build on next class.

I want the women who train here to feel proud of the skills they’re earning. There’s a lot of good work you can do on these mats, even if you’ve never grappled before.

The person training with your child is trusting them. Learning how to handle that responsibility matters.

A position like this gives us a chance to teach both sides, how to maintain control, how to respond, and how to pay attention to your partner.

We teach kids to respect the tap, control their movements, and stop when they’re told. Getting excited about winning doesn’t excuse forgetting the person you’re training with.

Being someone others can trust is part of getting better here.

That’s a standard I want our kids to carry into the way they treat people everywhere.

Parents, message the Force page with your child’s age. We’ll help you find the right class to get started.

You can be finished with your old sport and still miss having something to train for.

Coming from wrestling, I’ve always appreciated training partners who push you and help you improve. That’s the kind of room I want at Force.

Jiu-jitsu gives you something to work toward again. A skill to learn, a problem to figure out, and people beside you putting in the work, too.

You can start fresh at this. Your first day doesn’t have to look anything like your best day in another sport.

If you’ve been missing that challenge, come experience a class with us.

If having no idea what you’re doing has kept you from trying jiu-jitsu, look at this picture.

This is a part of coaching I love. Getting down there with somebody, finding what’s making a position difficult, and helping them understand the next step.

Sometimes moving your hand a few inches changes everything. Sometimes you need to see it again before it makes sense.

Ask the question. Tell me where you’re getting stuck. That gives us somewhere to work.

You don’t owe me a perfect first rep. Bring a willingness to learn, and we’ll build from there.
