Our very own Matt Sanders will be representing us on the national stage once again! He tees of tomorrow at 1pm (4pm our time) and is trying to claim one of the 20 spots available in the PGA Championship next month!

We wanted to share an update on an important golf course improvement project currently underway on holes 4 and 15.

Over time, both greens have been impacted by a condition known as “collar damming.” As part of our normal maintenance practices, sand is regularly applied to the greens to maintain smooth and healthy putting surfaces. However, this process has gradually built up the collars surrounding the greens, raising them above the putting surface. This prevents proper drainage, causing water to collect in low areas and ultimately leading to turf loss.

To correct this, we are restoring both greens by:
- Removing excess material from the collars to reestablish proper surface drainage
- Regrassing damaged areas
- Expanding the greens back to their original sizes from 2005 (with modified shaping)

Attached is an image of number 4 green… the red line represents the original green design and the black line represents the newly restored green shape.

Hole 4 will be expanded by approximately 20%, and Hole 15 by approximately 15%, bringing back lost pin placements and improving overall playability. We are also taking this opportunity to redesign the shape of these greens. The new look will blend nicely with our "Golden Age" inspired bunkering.

During this work, holes 4 and 15 will be closed. We anticipate reopening both holes in approximately two weeks, at which point the greens will be playable with areas marked as Ground Under Repair as they continue to establish.

This work is being completed at the start of the growing season to ensure the best possible conditions for turf establishment and long-term success. We appreciate your patience as we complete this project and are excited about the improved playing conditions these changes will bring.

Congratulations to Emory’s Amanda Zheng for setting a new Women’s Course Record with a 64! Amanda is a freshman from Beijing, China and this round was her personal best as well as our course record. She made 7 birdies and no bogeys from the WHITE tees. Emory University will once again host their annual collegiate tournament here at West Pines in the spring.

Our very own Matt Sanders is the Georgia PGA Player of the Year! He has earned an exemption into the PGA Tour’s RSM Classic at Sea Island this November.
