Last weekend was round 4 and the finale of the Route 66 Sprint Series at Briggs & Stratton Motorplex at Road America
We were solidly Top 10 all weekend. The pace showed from first practice on Friday and lasted the entire event.
We finished Happy Hour with 4th fastest time setting us up for a good start in qualifying
Unfortunately in qualifying we got stuck behind some slower traffic and lacked a bit of pace overall ultimately setting the 9th fastest time.
Starting 9th in heat 1, we quickly moved up to p5 on the first lap but gradually shuffled back to 8th as the race progressed. We finished 7th out 44
Starting 7th in heat 2, we once again made moves on the first lap up to p4 but battled hard in the top 10 to finish 7th. Unfortunately due to an incident crossing the finish line, we were collected in a pretty scary crash that led to me smashing into the wall on the front straight, coming to a stop back in the racing line. The kart was largely undamaged and everything in the end was ok but an unnecessary situation all together.
For the Feature, we started 7th once again but lost a position on the first lap. The entire top 10 throughout all 18 laps was one big group of competitive and fierce battling. We ultimately crossed the line in 9th position. After the race we were given a 4 position avoidable contact penalty. After reviewing the footage with the other driver, we both came to the same conclusion that there was no wrong doing on either side and that it was an innocent racing incident. We decided not to protest the penalty.
This was easily the best weekend of the year and possibly of my entire career. The 2026 Route 66 Sprint Series was a blast and cannot thank the Route staff and series more for putting on such a great event every race.
