Introducing BMC Artistic Director Hettie Barnhill!

“Movement is essential. We are not stagnant being. Change, life, and progress require action. Dance connects us to our past, our inner voice, and our bodies while also propelling us forward. Many of the most powerful moments in history began with a movement.“

Working with this incredible group of artists has reaffirmed that I am exactly where I am meant to be. BMC has brought more love, depth, meaningful conversations, friendship, and humility into my life. I am excited to choreograph new work and to present our first full dance concert here in the Capital Region.

Fun Fact:
Hettie’s favorite genre of music changes often, but right now it is African Gospel.

Grateful for this beautiful recap video capturing Create A Space NOW’s production of Head Of The Table: The School Assemblies.

The Barnhill Movement Collective had an incredible time performing and engaging with students across each school. This work creates space for conversation, reflection, and connection and what stood out most was just how deeply students leaned in. They were present, responsive, and courageous in their reflections. The feedback we received in these intimate settings was both powerful and affirming.

This is the kind of work that reminds us: art is not just meant to entertain, it is meant to transform.
We are honored to be in collaboration with schools in Schenectady through Create A Space NOW, bringing ‘The Head Of The Table’ to life. This immersive production lives at the intersection of arts and activism, inviting students into meaningful dialogue and creative exploration around resilience, trust, communication, power dynamics, consent, and healing.

Through theater, movement, and facilitated conversation, students are not only witnessing the work, they are engaging with it, questioning it, and connecting it to their own lived experiences. That is where the shift happens.
Thank you to the Schenectady school community for trusting us with your students and for welcoming this work into your spaces.

Introducing BMC Company Member At Large Christianna Poblete!

“Movement and dance are imperative to society. It is one of the most human forms of expression that has lived and breathed alongside the journey of human civilization from the start. It is an art that has impacted our community and the world in so many ways and is much more powerful than people give it credit for.”

I am looking forward to building connections in our BMC community and seeing all of the amazing pieces that are produced from these incredible and unique group of artists.

Fun Fact:
Christiana’s favorite genre of music is indie pop.
