This post isn’t about criticizing police officers that don’t train. It’s about encouraging good cops to keep getting better.

You do fi****ms qualification. You train tactics. You study policy. You maintain your equipment. Why wouldn’t you continue developing the one tool you take into every single call— yourselves?

Our martial arts, self-defense and defensive tactics training at Combat Fitness Martial Arts gives you something you can’t acquire from a semi-annual or yearly defensive tactics class. Time under pressure.

The ability to stay calm when someone is fighting you. The confidence to control someone without immediately escalating the level of force. And the humility to realize there is always more to learn. Professionals make training a priority.

This doesn’t mean you have to train everyday. It means deciding that your skills are worth investing in because your partners deserve the best version of you. The community deserves the best version of you. And, most importantly, your loved ones (and pets) waiting for you at home deserve the best chance possible of having you walk back through the entrance of your home at the end of your shift.

So this is isn’t me pointing a finger. It’s me extending a hand. It’s me giving back to our police officers through my knowledge, skills and training in various combative systems.

Sixteen years in! I’m blessed to have fantastic students, an amazing team of assistant instructors and the Doylestown community to celebrate this milestone.

Running a small business has been personally gratifying accompanied by ups and downs, hard work, challenges and rewards. It’s about staying true to why I started, even when the costs go up, even when people you love leave, even when nobody sees the weight you’re carrying. The real test is staying committed to the mission.

I’m grateful, every single day, for my students, assistant instructors and the community that has made it worthwhile.

I’m also deeply grateful and appreciative to my teachers/coaches and mentors for being with me. Lastly, thanks to my family for their love and support and your understanding why I sometimes miss family gatherings.

The purpose of this post is to educate my students and followers that when we make an emergency 911 call, it will take time for law enforcement officers— and other first responders —to arrive on the scene to help us. We have to take appropriate action(s) ourselves until they arrive. This post is not to disparage them in any way. Some of my friends, martial arts colleagues and (former and active) students are law enforcement officers.

The average police response time for urgent, high-priority emergencies is 5-10 minutes in urban areas and about 15 minutes or longer in rural communities due to larger geographic patrol areas and fewer units.

The first minutes of crisis belong to us. Law enforcement cannot help us until they arrive on the scene. So what do we do then? If it’s a violent confrontation, would you know how to protect yourself and your loved ones?

Never be physically incapable of protecting ourselves and our loved ones.

No other martial arts and self-defense school in Doylestown and Central Bucks County offers the variety of combative systems that we do for adults and children.
