“Yeah, but I scaled it.”
That is one of the most disappointing things to hear as a coach after we’ve watched you crush a workout.
Why?
Because we know that scaling isn’t taking the easy option.
Scaling, when done well, is one of the most deliberate and powerful tools we have in CrossFit training.
It’s what allows you to move well, build confidence, make progress, and avoid burnout and injury.
It’s what will keep you moving tomorrow, next month, and for decades to come.
The goal isn’t to do exactly what everyone else is doing.
The goal is to challenge yourself, meet yourself where you are on any given day, hit the intended stimulus of the workout, and walk out of the gym feeling ready to come back tomorrow.
A good coach will help you find “your version” of the movement or workout.
And “your version” isn’t always the same.
Fatigue, soreness, skill and experience level, injury history, and even your current tolerance for stress can all play a factor.
Some days, Rx is the right choice.
Some days, scaling is the right choice.
Both are wins when you’re getting the intended stimulus and putting in the work.
You just have to show up, be honest about where you’re at, and be open to making the adjustment.
Your Summa coaches will handle the rest. 🤍
