Somewhere beyond the rainbow bridge, there are two very special horses running together again. π
This week we said goodbye to Timmy and Bandit. Together. Somehow, that feels exactly right.
Bandit had been fighting a long, hard battle with Cushingβs, insulin resistance, and age. And oh, did he fight. He gave us everything he had, right up until the very end. But eventually, even the strongest warriors get tired. He was tired. And I think, in his own quiet way, he was telling us he was ready to rest. π
And then there was Timmy. Sweet, stubborn, ridiculous Timmy. He outlived every expectation we ever had for him.
We suspected aggressive cancer, and despite every supplement, every feed, every plan, every desperate attempt to put weight on him, his body simply wouldn't cooperate.
But Timmy didn't seem particularly interested in our expectations. He had places to be, people to charm, trouble to cause, and an entire lifetime to squeeze into whatever time he was given. And somehow, he did exactly that. β€οΈ
These two were loved by everyone. Not just loved in the ordinary way, either. They were barn horses, part of the fixtures. The kind who became part of the scenery of your life. The kind you looked for when you walked through the gate. The kind whose personalities became stories, whose quirks became jokes, and whose absence will make the barn feel strangely, painfully quiet.
So tonight, I picture them somewhere beyond this place.
Two horses standing side by side beneath an impossible golden sky. No medications. No weight checks. No bloodwork. No fighting. No tired bodies.
Just grass that never runs out.
The wind in their manes.
A little bit of chaos, because obviously.
And probably Bandit getting into something he shouldn't while Timmy looks on like, βFor the love of God, Banditβ¦β π€¦ββοΈ
And maybe, after all that fighting, Bandit finally gets to put his head down and rest.
Maybe Timmy finally gets to eat without us worrying about calories.
Maybe they find all the horses who went before them and tell them about the people who loved them here.
Run free, boys.
You were here. You mattered. You were deeply, ridiculously, fiercely loved.
You will be missed more than words can hold.
Until we meet again on the other side of the rainbow. ππ΄β€οΈ
Go cause a little trouble up there, boys.
(Although we all know how that's going to go.) π
Join the rest of the herd waiting for me up there β€οΈ I cant wait to see you all again...
