5 Reasons Outdoor Hockey is the Best Hockey

The Duluth time honored tradition of outdoor rinks is a point of pride for us here in the north land. For just a few short months, community centers all across the city transform into something unique to the bold north: the outdoor skating rink. Duluth holds a unique spot in hockey history. As the last outdoor hockey league in the country, there is a bond that unites hockey players from all generati...

[01/04/19]   On behalf of Icebreaker hockey, we express our deepest sympathies to the Landsteiner family and the Duluth hockey community. We ask that each family please read below and participate in "Laces for the Landsteiner's" in support of the Landsteiner family.

Jake and Pam Landsteiner have four children, Rachel, Ben, Abby, and Rebekah. Rachel is a 12U Icebreaker and Ben and Abby are both Mite 2's at Glen Avon. The family moved to Duluth in 2017 and have been an awesome addition to our hockey family.

Jake was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2014. Over the last several years, Jake had been through multiple surgeries, rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, and approached this battle with courage and humor. Sadly, after a four year battle with the disease, Jake passed away on Wednesday.

To show support for the Landsteiner family, we are encouraging all Icebreakers to wear red skate laces.

If you are interested in making a donation to the Landsteiner family, please reach out to Charity Rupp, [email protected].
