Warm weather is finally here, which means so are sandy shoulders and potholes! Planning good practice routes that avoid this isn't always easy. Thankfully, one of our teammates went out of their way to find one of the slickest roads in Duluth.

Happy global Fatbike day from UMD Cycling! Thank you to all who came today, and even if you didn't we hope you were able to get out and celebrate the holiday. It was beautiful! Another big thanks to Day Tripper of Duluth for hooking the team up with bikes. In the past, we haven't been able to ride together during the eternal Duluth winters, and doing so today was a ton of fun!
Hey everyone! I'm about to dump a significant amount of information regarding tomorrows Bulldog (FAT)Bike Bash, but please bear with me.
First, the trails are a bit icy, so prep your studded tires. That being said, I went out riding this morning without studs and was able to ride without falling, and only had to walk a few of the longer hills. As the event goes on though they might become more and more necessary.
Because of this, I'd like to put emphasis on the fact that there are no awards for the race. It is simply a chance to get some bonus miles and a tiny amount of pride. If you'd like to get some serious speed, there are plenty of roads around Duluth you can explore. We'd like everyone to get in some miles and have a good time, but if people are recklessly shredding the snow covering the ice or riding off cliffs and getting hurt, that complicates things.
Helmets are MANDATORY! I feel like this won't be an issue for most people, but I have to say it just in case. If you don't have a helmet, you can't ride.
There is a pedestrian bridge crossing Amity Creek that was recently closed due to 'structural integrity concerns.' You can see this bridge while riding, but the marked course heads the other way. If you find yourself hiking about during the event, don't try to cross it.
Someone is missing there dog (Tober) after a hike at Lester the other day. If you happen to see Tober during the event, let us know and we can help get him back to the owner. There are pictures and contact information on the COGGS page and we will also have those at the registration table.
Lastly, we really don't know how many of you will show up. If everyone does and nobody brings food, we might run out. If you are going, and are able to bring some food, please do. You can add your name and what you are bringing to the list found here (we could use some more baked goodies): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X2ycPY31rn56xNTmfEucFZgEo9c3ejaJIc7FXu1Zwp4/edit?usp=sharing
Thanks again to Day Tripper of Duluth for helping provide the team with fat bikes. This should be good experience for us and everyone else who attends!
We hope to see you all there!

BIG news everyone! Day Tripper of Duluth has stepped forward to help provide our teammates with fat bikes for the Bulldog (FAT)Bike Bash this weekend. As many of you know, fat bikes can be a bit pricey, and only a few members of the team own one, so having their support saves us a TON of money on rentals for the day.
For those of you who aren't familiar, Day Tripper is a local company that hosts tours along the north shore, with activities like kayaking and canoeing local waters, exploring the best ski and hiking trails, and our personal favorite, mountain and fat biking the extensive Duluth trail system and beyond!
Whether you have friends and family visiting who are searching for something to do outdoors, or you are looking for a new way to explore Duluth yourself, keep them in mind.
Check out their website to see all of the fun things you can do, or make plans and book a tour here:
